Thailand1977
Is that the aristocrat Anthony Wedgwood-Benn, 2nd Viscount Stansgate and one very rich socialist that lives in a mansion in holland park? no carmine, it's the one who abandoned his hereditary viscountcy so he could sit as an MP and who lives in a flat. and who is about the only sane voice still left in UK politics. the one who fights tirelessly for the NHS and for poor people's rights. come on man, you're usually better than that. Who got his son a job in Nulabour without ever doing a days work in his life .. other then in the Unions. And was privately educated. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilary_Benn Yes he's all for the proles, just so long as he doesnt have to mix with them. how's that looking up the differences between socialism and communism going? only a true right-wing nutjob would ignore all the actual work that tony benn has done for people who need help to focus on where his son went to school. we've already established that the family was old money and privilege but you continue to ignore what tony benn actually stands for and what he's actually done. i'll have to assume you're a dyed-in-the-wool tory and are beyond help then. no point discussing further with you really. what football team do you support though out of interest? Never voted Tory, you have made presumptions yet are clearly a left wing fanatic.

wellred
Hopefully they go down and everyone can stop talking about this Mussolini lover. It's all good and well saying this now whilst he has been given a premiership club to manage but that doesn't explain all that waving at Lazio. That club was full of racists. Him, that Mihajkovjc plenty others too. You can't put a silk hat on a pig and you can't disguise the fact that your a racist either. I never really gave a toss about Sunderland before but now I really do hope they go down now.
mjj
Politics, huh. Freedom of speech. Should someone be punished for their views? Actions, yes, but non active views?? It starts to become a grey area IMO. How much control should a job have over your personal life?

Also as one poster said, it wasn't an issue at Swindon. I don't really understand what the huge problem is with him. He's a talented retired footballer, dwarf like in staure thats very comfoetable making a d*ck of himself. But other than that is he a menace to society? mjj
Yep. I prefer to have views in plain sight rather than pushing things underground. Edit. Just read my response, the agreement was not suggesting he is a menace to society. Edited April 4, 2013 by mjj

BangrakBob
Well I think I'll watch the Chelsea match on Saturday......first time I've ever felt like watching a Sunderland match. Will be interesting to see what 1 person can do or not do to a team in a week. They've not got an easy run in, the derby the following week should be a cracker. I'd like to see him succeed, if only for the potential entertainment value.

Looking forward to Di Canio taking charge. Guaranteed they wont go down like a wet rag.... fireworks for sure
SantiSuk
7 pages about the personal views of a minor manager. Wow. Free speech is a great concept, as long as its used to say things I agree with.

Those on the loony left have always been the same. In a way i agree with Di Canios thinking in that surely there is an Brit who can do that job as good or better then a unproven foreigner. It starts to become a grey area IMO. How much control should a job have over your personal life? there's a lot of truth in this and i don't like free speech being stifled either. it's the reason that we know nick griffin is an unelectable idiot for example. so di canio being a right-wing mussolini-loving <deleted> shouldn't prevent him from getting a job in football, but if he suddenly imposes his madman beliefs on the players in the club's employ, and if they're illegal or discriminatory, then he should be made to answer etc. but cross that bridge when you get to it. as pointed out elsewhere, apparently his politics weren't an issue when he was manager of swindon. Nick Griffin and Mussolini are/were "Socialists" please look at the BNP's manifesto you probably agree with most of it and do a little research on Mussolini .... and you dont like free speech hence your vicious name calling of anyone who says something you disagree with. Right wing involves low taxes and minimal govt intervention in ones life, hence why you like Thailand. Nulabour who you say are right wing raised taxes to over 50% of GDP and involve themselves in every aspect of our life, but you're not bright enough to see it. I'm not saying that the essence of his charges is fabricated, just that it made me smile to see a football player (supposedly) writing like a Grauniad leftie journo in the scond half of the piece about de C. Commendable that he actually takes the time to do what he's being paid to do but i'd suspect most footballers are not literate enough to write a column in the first place

Sphericals! Read the bit about Iceland, which he clearly did write. Then contrast the style of prose with the politico analysis in the DeCanio piece. Either that or they got two different journos to write it! I have nothing against Calamity James, always seemed a nice enough bloke. I'm sure Stevie could confirm or deny that - must have regularly bumped into the Spice Boys in Liverpool boozers/clubs I suspect (unless you were under 8 y.o. at the time Stevie )

Who knows bout the writing But I do gather from my mates constant bitching the re writing of celebrity columns was one of the joarnos pet annoyances, and they were only to happy to name and shame 'celebs' who didnt write their columns, cos the 'names could and often would get a frigging fortune and the joarno's would do all the written work and get literally sweet fa, the ghost writing would be seen by the paper as part of the 9=5 job. Saying that I did read somewhere at one point james was giving his fee to charity
