Just received this from AIS. Anyone know what it means? Never seen that one before. I am on the 799 baht 3g package that supposedly has unlimited gprs service. Have yet to get hold of a human at AIS.

"Your F1_3GStaffPackage100MB package has only 47 Mbytes of EDGE/GPRS remaining."

It appears from the message you are not on the unlimited package. simply call the service centre on 1175. they speak very good English and will sort it out for you without any hassle.

I think there are issues with AIS's database as I have had two sms messages in the past 48 hours saying unable to renew my 799 baht package. Today I had the 'your account balance is low' sms but doing an account check still shows over 1000 baht credit so more than enough for the data package rollover and blethering. In the meantime, despite the warnings, I still have 3G & EDGE/GPRS and voice calling.

I will pop in by the new AIS shop later today as it looked really busy yesterday!

Back in October I received a similar sms telling me my 3G/Edge package had nearly reached its limit, even though I was only a few days into the current period and it was supposed to be 'unlimited'. I called them and they told me that my download/upload limit was nearly used up. I asked them why? as the package was unlimited. they replied that it wasn't unlimited as far as downloading large 'mega' megabytes was concerned.

Now it so happened that during those past few days I had been using my 3G to download a lot of stuff, movies etc as my regular home internet connection was playing up and I hadn't realised there was a limit, even though it was an 'unlimited package'.

I asked them how much it would cost to add some more download 'allowance' or upgrade my package and they said 'no can do' - have to wait until next month.

Anyway, I stopped using the 3G for heavy downloads and it was fine for the rest of the month and has been fine ever since. It is OK for web browsing, emails, downloading tablet software etc and other minor downloading tasks but if you start downloading large files - movies etc you will soon use up your monthly allowance.

This is no different to the UK where they also sell 'unlimited' 3g packages which also restrict you in the amount you can download, so I have just accepted it.

Since the incident in October I have received no more messages.

Note that some "Unlimited" packages do have limits. My AIS 3G "unlimited" package is ripping fast until I download 4GB in the billing period. Once I reach that, I am throttled to a much lower speed. No extra cost, so that is why they can call it unlimited.

Precisely. That's what I was trying to say.....smile.png
