Shaved Ice In Plastic Bags, Is It Tap Or Bottled Water ?

Featured Replies

shaved ice in plastic bags, is it tap or bottled water ?

i would like to my drink on ice, but was always taught that ice , like unpeeled fruit, and dairy is a 'no no'

perhaps it might depend where one is in the country what the ice is made of ?

i will mostly be in bkk

mahalo, chubby

I'm not sure what you mean by "shaved" ice - I've never seen hairy ice, but I do have ice in my drinks all the time and touch wood, have never had a problem in the six months I've lived here. I'm also not sure about this unpeeled fruit and dairy thing - I also eat unpeeled fruit and dairy quite frequently and again, touch wood, have never had a problem...

I've never seen hairy ice either.

Perhaps they usually wax it first?

Shaved ice is ice that was originally produced in a big block and is chipped with a pick or shaved with a machine into smaller blocks...

Even if the shaved ice comes from filtered water, you also need to be concerned about how the ice has been handled since being produced... It is big and heavy which prevents it being moved easily...

Usually you will find the ice is 'tube' ice, (circular with a hole in the middle), which I have always found to be OK..

Cheers,

Darryl

So it comes from a big block of hairy ice?

If you are talking about the ice the street vendors use when you buy a coke I think the aswer would be "it depends"

No matter what you do you will get exposed to the bugs in LOS. I personally have never had a problem with vendor food/drink.

Almost all of them use filtered water , dont worry , I've never been sick from it.

Ive never been crook from the consumption of ice in Thailand, through good luck or good judgement I dont know. Many people I know will not touch the stuff.

No idea what kind of water they use, but when you look inside the big ice boxes before they fill them up with new ice, there is an amount of dirt from the melting ice. I've never been sick from ice though.

Avoid the shaved/crushed ice. I've watched them drag those ice blocks across the footpaths. Yuk.

Cubes are the way to go.

I think he may be getting mixed up with pork scratchings.

Bottled water.

Where does it really originate from?

You think you know?

Are you sure?

You can get ice in sealed bags say it's treated, allegedly.

The ice machines making the 'tube' ice is from treated water, allegedly.

The blocks of ice made from treated water are cruched up in a machine is " crushed ice " I think that's what you mean, not shaved.

Neither has affected me at all, now !!! I must go and get to the bathroom quickly.unsure.png

It's all a huge misunderstanding. He's referring to hairy lice (which is probably why the pork is scratching). As long as you don't eat too many you should be okay.

Bottled water.

Where does it really originate from?

Why, from Pure Mountain Springs, where else could it come from?

The brand I use is called Dew Drop; so I imagine this is being harvested every early morning from leaves in small cups.

Anyway: Move this one to the food forum?

Often the ice factories are also water filtering plants, or located close to them anyway. Most bottles water is filtered, and that's the same stuff used to make ice of any kind.
