Getting Married In Thailand (Uk Citizen And Thai)

Firstly congrats in your pending nuptuals.

You need to go to the UK consulate and get a letter of Affirmation this confirms you are free to marry a Thai.

Take that to a translator to get it translated into Thai.

This then needs to be stamped by the ministry of Foreign affairs in Bangkok.

After that the two of you go to the Amphur with all the documents and you sign to marry.

Hope that's clear enough.

Look at your embassy website. Most embassies will tell you what to do.

As a foreigner, you need a letter from your embassy confirming you are free to marry. The embassy sets the rules on what they require to issue this letter. next you have this letter translated by a transaltion agency and then you go to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs to have it legalised. (The translation agency can do this for you). Once you have the leter legalised you can go to any amphur in thailand with the letter, your passport, your GF and her ID card and household registration and sign the marriage register.

When you get married, ask for the khor rhor 2 form, (a copy of the entry into the wedding register). You will need that if you want an extenson of stay from immigration based on your marriage. (You will also need either an income of 40,000 baht a month (can be from abroad) OR 400,000 baht in a bankaccount in Thailand in your name for 2 months).

Oh I forgot to mention you don't need to register the marriage with the UK embassy.

You just get a certified translation of your marriage cert and that's ample for anything you need to do legally in the UK.

You can lodge a copy with the embassy if you want but the cost is about 3,000 baht and all that's for is if you require a copy in the future and they will still charge you to get a copy anyway.

She could marry you while she is in England; but you would have to give notice at one of 76 designated registry offices, though having done that you can then marry at the registry office of your choice.

See "If you are subject to immigration control" on this page.

It'll cost you £35 to give notice then a further £40 to register the marriage.

She cannot convert her visit visa to settlement whilst in the UK, she'll have to return to Thailand and apply for settlement there.

If you will be going to Thailand with her anyway it will be simpler to marry there.

See Guidance for British nationals wishing to marry in Thailand.
