at the same time Syria is close to civil war?

Both are financial and directorial backers of Hezbollah.

And both are on the ropes to some extent, that is the times

in the past that they have let Hezbollah off it's leash.

They have tried to 'clean up Hezbollahs image' for several years

since they gained governmental control of some territory,

The Thai culture is totally different from the Western culture. They are mainly Buddhists and believe in karma, everyone eventually gets what he/she deserves and "shit happens", too. Look how many of them wear helmets. Mai pen rai.

If you come to Thailand and stay for a while you have to accept that or get lost. Actually I like that attitude more than the Western one, that's why I keep coming back. If you focus on the bad possibilites too much you will only make your life miserable and still not be able to avoid your accidents.

Just my 2 cents.

There are certainly more annoying people than the Thais - their free-loving attitude is pleasant to be around.

However, their 'mai pen rai' attitude has its consequences - ones that are perfectly avoidable, 100% human caused disasters.

Riding around without a helmet is one thing - riding with a an infant on a motorcyle is another. Riding with an infant, at night, with no headlights, the wrong way down a highway is yet another (sounds far fetched - but anyone who has lived in Thailand for a bit has seen this kind of thing....its all too common, really).

A free-loving, easy going attitude is great. Blatantly irresponsible behavior isn't.

It seems the BKK Post today picked up the report from the DEBKAfile web site that I posted here last night, re the terrorists' supposed plan being to bomb and take hostages at the Jewish Chabad Center in BKK as well as at restaurants in the KSR area...

All the attacks listed there are 18 years ago or older and during Israel's occupation of southern Lebanon.

The US and French were also involved in the civil war and, of course, French-made laws favoring Christians were a root cause of the confict.

For Hezbollah their perspective goes back to the Christian Crusades in the Holy Land 1,000 years ago.The last 20 years are just a foot note in their time line of anger.

Hezbollah is part of coalation government that includes Christian, Druze and secular parties.

Lebanon is too multi-ethnic/religious for them to use anger/hatred as the basis of their actions... they would never be able to get anything done or maintain their share of power.

Their military wing has support from a sizeable portion of non-Islamic groups simply because the Lebanese military isn't strong enough to defend the country.

I think Hezbollah is more practical than you give them credit for.

Ideologically, they share much with Revolutionary Iran but in practice they're more inclusive.

And they're not a fringe group... they are a part of the mainstream Lebanese political system so they have a lot to lose.

That's why the reported planned attacks seems unlike them.

For all I care, the whole lot of the Middle Eastern nations can nuke themselves out of existence. None of those countries have any significance to me; I couldn’t give a rat’s behind which side wins.

Yet the so called Middle Eastern terrorists or those Presumed to be on the side of righteousness continue to bring they’re disputes over to other countries and many innocents who have no connections or relevance with the Middle East have paid the price on their behalf, such as the 9/11 attacks for example.

Why not send the nationalities that are considered as a high-risk security threat, even by just they’re presence here, packing, and let them fight it out within their own countries?

The USA need to settle down and stop interfering in places like Syria and the Muslims need to understand, there is

I actually thought this was a credible threat and possibly it still is. That was until I heard they'd arrested a Lebanese man with links to Hezbollah. Ok, two thirds of the Lebanese population are Shiite Muslims, of these probably a good percentage of them have a 'link' in some way to Hezbollah, whether it is is their medical services, political wing, their education facilities or just because they like to sit around smoking a nargile on the corner. You could round up a couple of hundred Lebanese in Thailand using the exact same criteria. I seriously hope that nothing comes of it and frankly this doesn't suit Hezbollah's style at all but you never know.

Yes and then boot out the Irish, then go for the Paki's and Indians (not like they contribute much to the Thai economy) Then boot out the Norwegians because we know there are one or two nutters with guns up there, then the Germans because they insist on wearing socks with their sandals at the Chicken Shed!

You're conveniently forgetting the little matter of the FOUR TONS of bomb making chemicals stashed away outside of Bangkok, with the urea fertilizer conveniently packed in kitty litter-labeled bags. Along with the 250 to 300 liters of amonium nitrate...

That's enough bomb making materials to construct a bomb about twice the size of the one, with similar ingredients, that brought down the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Enjoy your mung beans.
