webfact Posted January 16, 2012 Share Posted January 16, 2012 Tourism sector intensifies security measures BANGKOK, 16 January 2012 (NNT) - After the US and other embassies in Thailand have issued terror alerts, several tourism-related agencies have intensified their security measures to prevent unexpected events. Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor Surapon Sawetseranee revealed that after twelve embassies had issued warnings their citizens over possible terrorist attacks in Thailand, the TAT has ordered all of its offices across the country to follow up on the news and check on the effects of the warnings on tourist activities. The TAT has not issued any travel warning to tourists, but is waiting for clear information from the security authorities. Meanwhile, Suvarnabhumi International Airport has increased its security level from level 2 to 3 and added more security checkpoints as well as security personnel. The Tourist Police Division has been cooperating with metropolitan police and the Crime Suppression Division, in adding more security officials around Khao San road as well as many entertainment venues frequented by foreigners. The atmosphere at Khao San road remains lively; however, some vendors have admitted the warnings from the embassies have affected rvelers’ sentiment. webfact Posted January 16, 2012 Author Share Posted January 16, 2012 Security at two airports raised Airports of Thailand (AoT) raised the level of security at Suvarnabhumi and Chiang Mai international airports on Monday following reports of the terrorist threat in Bangkok. Security had been increased from level two to level three at the two airports, while security at four other international airports -- Don Mueang, Phuket, Hat Yai and Chiang Rai – remained at level two, AoT president Aniruth Thanomkulabutr said. More security staff would be deployed while checks on passengers, airport areas and luggage would be conducted more frequently and strictly. The increased security measures were in line with the situation, Mr Aniruth said, adding that there were four security threat levels. The people in positions of authority in this country really are so inept it makes you wonder if they make these statements just to mislead, because no one could actually be this stupid. Based on all the statements made by a slew of govt officials over the last few days, to include the PM, there is nothing to worry about....all under control. I'm confused.
