English Language Tutoring In Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am currently in Chiang Mai, doing some English language tutoring, but I need more students/more hours. Problem is: I don't have a work permit.

I was thinking of putting up little flyers around the neighorhood to "advertise" my services (I can also teach German and French), but that might attract unwanted attention as well, and the last thing I want is a stiff penalty and having a police/criminal record. My girlfriend would kill me.

Anyone have any advice? Would language schools hire me? Any other options to get more students?

Thanks!

John

There is no better advertising than a happy current customer. You might try offering your current students a little reward, such as one or two free lessons, if they can bring in a new customer for you.

I agree, word of mouth is the best way. I'm not even looking for work but in my neighborhood, word seems to have spread about the new face in town and several requests have come back (via friends & inlaws) asking if I'm available for impromptu tutoring.

When I voice concerns about legalities and such (I don't have a WP), the family just rolls their eyes at me and says the equivalent of "oh please, you're in Thailand".
