Help ! Drowning In Noisepollution Sansai Municipal

A very good evening to you all,

Hopefully you can use your keyboard without moving and shaking, because I can't.

Starting yesterday 17:00 till very late at night, again this morning at 07:00 till now there is some

gathering going on (balloons ? and some 10 motorized skydivers in the afternoons) at the new Municipallity building , not far from Sansai Postoffice along same road towards Sansai Noi .

It looks like they can't do without such loud music and shouting through their loudspeakers that even we at a distance of about 3000 mtr. have to live with the constant baseboing-boing in a way that our childeren can't make their homewerk, the dog starts barking and we have to shout in our own house.

Mind you we are a bit used to noise coming from this place, but this is redicuul.

Apart from that over time it'getting louder and later into the night.

Any help and/or advice appriciated.

I don't mean to laugh at the OP with this emoticon. It's more a smile of sympathy.

I don't know what it is that makes most Thai people I know completely immune to egregious and way over the top noise. Yes, noise.

I don't refer to loud music at a festival, I grew up on that.

I mean noise with a capital N; that any 2 bit Somchai who is selling cookware at a 10% discount, can hire a sound truck blaring the glory of his sales event. Fireworks set off by spotty teens that would be banned as terrorist devices in most countries, and local Wat festivals with bad karaoke droning and whining on for hours...all for a good cause, I'm sure.

And I have a project being built across the street from me, size of the Pentagon, with jackhammers run with taped handles (very bad concrete pouring and molding, I assume), idiots banging on tin with mallets at all hours of day and night, and no end of massive movement of trucks spewing diesel exhaust rumbling the ground.

It's all about the Almighty Dollar or Baht or whatever currency you chose.

Some of our fellow members here will no doubt react angrily to these harsh words- all quiet where they are, now.

Doesn't do a bit of good to get upset or complain about any of this.

Because as soon as you move, to a place of solitude and peace and tranquility...the horror will reappear across the street from you again, guaranteed.

Hello Mcgriffith,

There are publications just waiting for a good humourist clap2.gif . I have no reason to suggest you give up your job as Global Moderator, mind you.

Cheers

Yep, you're screwed wherever you are, anywhere here. We're in a good spot next to paddies and 2-3kms from nearest road, but will pick up the odd karaoke/party from 5kms which easily traverses the flat, empty land. Sucks, but noise doesn't bother them (probably need a good 50yrs of development in that area). Best bet is to stick fingers in ears for a generation or two until zoning/noise pollution laws are thought about, but if you were to complain on such an event today (and to whom?), you would be the face loser and would get nowhere unfortunately.

We are in Asia and this is one of the many New Year times for celebration. Check another thread on the Chiang Mai forum about Chinese New Year Celebration.

It's one of the many things we learn to live with here, all part of the learning curve. Must admit, never really thought about the noise aspect before coming to live here, even though I had made many trips before settling. I've got around it by moving to a very quiet area, although the odd ruptured cat Karaoke sounds do transmit across the airwaves from distant village's.

And don't forget the university graduation parties; they're just as bad, starting at 7:30 pm until around midnight. Thankfully that noise--complete with a full-of-himself MC--occurs only one or two weekends per year. But there's always some other reason (or non-reason) to get out the minivan-sized loud speakers and entertain the neighborhood. Shall I join them, i.e., buy or rent my own speakers and blast rap or classical music?

The old man (I'm one too, by the way) across the road gets his radio cranked up a couple times a week for an hour or so during the day, and I swear there have been times when my cement floor in my living room vibrates from the noise! Why so loud? It's one of the many mysteries of this country.

I think you should go out and relax somewhere this weekend, what about heading to Huay Tung Tao lake? Your kids could do their home work and you could relax and enjoy some good food. Otherwise just go out and do something, staying at home will just become more frustrating to you unless you go and buy earplugs for your family!

I do understand, we live way to close to a street of karaoke bars, so loud, so bad!

Lucky for you it'll be over in a day or two

Have a good weekend

This would be an excellent idea. But you should not start "blasting" until 5AM, when they are sound asleep. biggrin.png

Been in Thailand so long ,the barking dogs,Frog chorus,Loud Speakers from

the market dont bother me anymore, cannot get to sleep now if its too quiet.

You have just got to learn to live with it ,if you dwell on the noise and pollution,

too much it will drive you crazy, try harder or go back to home country,as its

not going to change anytime soon thats for sure.

Regards Worgeordie PS forgot to mention the Cicadas ,like little chain saws

It's quite possibly the San Sai winter fair which they also had last year too. I heard the same din and whaling coming from the area across the road from the Ampour / police station area.

Upon investigation with some friends from Bamboo bar in San Sai the fair was discovered and a very enjoyable evening was had by all.

Maybe you ought to go take a look, you never know but you may just enjoy it a little and be more forgiving of the noise.
