World Film Festival of Bangkok Opened with Thai Film

The 9th World Film Festival of Bangkok has opened with a Thai film.

After being postponed from November last year due to flooding, the 9th World Film Festival of Bangkok officially kicked off at the Paragon Cineplex last Friday.

The festival was opened with a Thai film entitled Padang Besar, or “I Carried You Home”, directed by Tongpong Chantarangkul.

The film was financially supported by the Culture Ministry's Contemporary Art and Culture Office and tells the story of two estranged sisters who find a way to bring the soulless body of their dead mother home.

The film's director said he is delighted and honored that his film was selected to open the festival.

It was recently screened at the Busan International Film Festival and is competing at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

Director of the 9th World Film Festival of Bangkok, Kriangsak Silakong, said despite being rescheduled, the festival is packed with activities and more than 80 international films from a great number incredibly talented filmmakers.

Highlights include the documentary, The Cave of Forgotten Dreams, by Werner Herzog and films that won awards at the Cannes Film Festival such as Boy Meets Girl, Walkover, and Little Jerusalem.

The films will be shown at the Esplanade Cineplex on Ratchadapisek Road until January 27.

The closing ceremony will held at the Nine Neighborhood Center on Rama 9 Road.
