Good Online Tefl Course To Do ?

Hi,

I am considering getting into teaching, what is a good option for getting a TEFL certificate ? Is one even required ? I have a bachelors degree and a masters (not teaching).

Also, do many falang teachers teach other subjects besides English ? As I think I would find it more interesting to be able to teach other subjects as well.

You have a wonderful attitude to education. I have no doubt that any school in Thailand would be both delighted and privileged to have you teach there. Please don't waste your time getting any sort of qualification - it's totally unnecessary in your case.

And please don't ever bother starting to use fuddy-duddy punctuation. It's far more fun to read "its rubbish" than the traditional version. And your other punctuation errors are just so apposite.

Unless you are a fluent Thai speaker what other subjects do feel you could teach, how would you communicate in other subjects. hundreds if not thousands here doing it already,many scraping and existence. dont give up any thing to important to do it.

maybe search out and join a few Ajan forums.

lol.... calm down. You sound like some bitter, angry guy that hates his job and wants to keep competition out of his area.

I'm only talking about what you learn in a TEFL course and trying to find out about what I need to do. I completely respect the teaching profession obviously. I am an intelligent, happy person and anything that I do I make sure I give it 100% and make the most of the experience.

I come asking for information and you make your first snide completely unhelpful remark (ie:what is wrong with an online course, exactly ??? what is a good offline course ???). Then in the next post you call me a moron ???? Are you a salesman for TEFL courses ? You seem to have taken my remarks very personally.....

Now, if anyone would care to actually educate me on the matter, I would really appreciate that.

Why is it always TEFL topics (and especially online TEFL topics) that bring out this charming side in all of our teaching subforum posters? If we don't have any actual topical posts here soon, the thread will be closed. OP, you may also wish to do a search on threads of this type for past comments on different TEFL courses.

From what I have gathered from my research OP, the online TEFL cert is pretty much useless for anything besides personal education. While the course might actually teach you skills, they all pretty much lack the 6 hours of in class teaching, which is what most interviewers expect from a TEFL Cert. or Diploma. All of your answers can be found via google and Ajarn and sites like thaivisa etc etc. ( I am same as OP, minus a Masters degree, I only have a B.B.A in Marketing)

Experience seems to be a dramatic factor as well.

Think really hard OP- Do you want a job to float you around SE. Asia for a few years or do you want to teach English and educate minds of a different culture?

hi, what about someone who takes an online tefl but has at least 1400 hours teaching under his/her belt before and during the time of studying for their online tefl . still a waste of time ?

also when you receive your online tefl, the certificate does not indicate that it was, infact online. it just states 120 hour course completed.

If you have experience, an online TEFL would be great; otherwise, it would be OK. I seriously doubt that little 6 hours of classroom is worth the extra cost as compared to online.

Very professional, accredited, high quality. On your resume, emphasize the accredited and put in the address of the company. No, the diploma says nothing about online.

,I completed the online TEFL a couple of years ago and found it good value for money ( there was a promotion at the time). You are welcome to PM me and I will provide you the details of how/which website I applied.

But in fairness, I had prevously worked in Training and Development for a number of years and was very comfortable with formal Classroom Delivery.

My objecive, rather, was to re-learn English in order to teach it. I had considered attending the one month CELTA course but instead opted for the on-line TEFL which allowed up to 6 months to compete the various tutorials.

In my case, the irony was that although I have numerous teaching qualifications I do not have a BA. Although this is not a show-stopper, it does make life difficult in finding a position in a desirable location.
