Leaving Thailand After 3 Years- Paper Work To Leave?

Featured Replies

Hello well I have been working thailand now for 3 years and its time ot move on. I have a non- immigrant b visa and some frineds mentioned i need some paper work to leave the country

ie

Tax recipts for tax paid at work

Form for cancellation of work permit

Can anybody clear this up for me. Also when my contract finishes how long can i stay in the country- 5 days i heard

Thanks Andy

I presume you have yearly extensions of stay from immirgaiton in Thailand and not a valid multiple non-B visa.

You need to cancel your work permit with a letter from your employer clearly stating the day of your last employement. Next you go to immigraiton to have your permisison to stay cancelled. At that time you can get an extension of 7 days to leave the country for 1,900 baht. Otherwise you have to leave the country within 24 hours.

What would ahppen if you just left... I am guessing not a great deal.

I'm wondering myself. Are they really going to hold you up at the airport?

"2nd best time to plant a tree is today." Sent from ThaiVisa app.

Chances are they will not notice, but if they do they can indeed hold you up. There is a post of a person being told to cancel his extension first at his local immigration office before he was allowed to depart.

Even though leaving cancels it. With a re-entry permit, even one you don't intend to use, nothing should be said. Some people might still have one. They have been advised here often enough to get one when they get their extensions - for emergencies.

I am working on a wp in BKK now, but I also worked on one in 2005/2006, after which I left Thailand to work in my country for 3 years.

What I remember is, is that the company I worked for at that time cancelled the wp. I never saw any of that.

I also just left the country. In fact, I still stayed a month in Thailand with my family before I left, on that non imm B.

When I left, no questions asked, or request for papers.

And now I'm back here, on non imm O, with wp, on same tax ID, without any problems (knock on wood).

I dont think they ask any person, stamping out at the airport, with a non imm B, for papers, or if they are leaving indefinetely. They would have to ask every person with a non imm B every time.

In fact, they never ask any questions.

Of course, it is wise to keep your tax receipts at hand, monthly salary slips etc.

And next time I will make sure I get the receipt you are supposed to get when you cancel your wp.

You don't need anything.

I worked in Thailand for a large company for a long time when it was time to leave I left, I still have interests in Thai, house, car, cash in bamk etc and visit regulalrly.

One question , when you left your home country to live and work in Thai what paperwork did you need? Exactly, nothing.

Why do people try to over complicate things in Thai?

When you want to leave, pack you bags, close you aqccounts if you wantm pay your bills, saygoodbye to friends, tie up loose ends with things you wamnt to give away, then, yep you've guessed it, leave. It's not a crime to leave!

Actually up until several decades ago such paperwork was required to exit Thailand if staying here for an extended period and was clearly indicated on departure card (long after it ceased being enforced). At one period they even had an exit tax payment that had to be made. So questions are understandable.

You still could be refused exit if you do not cancel extension of stay (but unless you tell them it is not likely to be an issue). What is more likely would be a return to find work permit had not been canceled and that would involve a small fine if you wanted to obtain a new one.
