Noooooooo get out,

YOU, expose more harm to your kids with a barbeque than the odd smoker. The smoke and deposits on food are more harmful than any smoker.

So, you ban smoking, ban barbeques, give up hols abroad. WHERE does your theory stop ?.

Your theory is, if you can smell and see it it must be banned BUT if we cannot smell or see it it is OK.

How hypocrisy!! It is nicotine that is addictive and not the cloves. Banning Clove cigarrettes from the US is just protectionist.

"Originally produced in Indonesia, the clove cigarette was banned in the United States in September 2009 on grounds that it could easily get young smokers addicted. Before being banned, the clove cigarettes held a Bt1trillion market share in the US."

My theory? You started this stupid rant... If you want to post facts on comparing how many ppl die from 2nd hand smoke compared to bbq then please do. But you are spouting crap for the sake of being heard. Smoking is dangerous to not only the ones that light the cigs and inhale but also to the others that are subjected to breathe cig smoke filled air. The science backs that up. Go argue it with the ones that do the studies.

ACUTE LUNG INJURY

Smoking clove cigarettes is associated with acute lung injury, according to the CDC. The possible types of lung injury caused by clove cigarettes include decreased oxygen absorption by the lung tissue, inflammation and fluid collection in the lungs. The risk of acute lung injury is especially elevated in people who already have lung diseases, such as asthma or a lung infection.

ABNORMAL LUNG FUNCTION

The CDC also reports that those who smoke clove cigarettes are 13 to 20 times more likely to have an increased risk of abnormal lung function. The above-mentioned acute lung injury, over time, can lead to abnormal lung function, which includes reduced airflow in and out of the lungs and/or decreased ability of the lungs to absorb oxygen from the air. The main symptom that abnormal lung function causes is difficulty breathing.

Notwithstanding the fact that I have only presented the dilemma of smoking in public as an issue of rights of smokers to smoke versus rights of non-smokers to not have their enjoyment diminished by unwanted cigarette smoke, the argument that 'smoking in public is ok because air pollution from other sources is much worse' is as daft as stating that it's ok to thump someone in the face because stabbing them to death is much worse.

The fact is, air pollution from traffic fumes and suchlike is an issue which deserves huge debate all of it's own (and, yes, it's a much bigger issue than smoking). It's something that, if we don't start facing up to, future generations won't have the choice we have. But it's not a valid get-out clause for smokers in debates about smoking, which is also an issue all of it's own.
