Israel arrests Palestinian prisoner released in Shalit swap

2012-02-01 08:20:14 GMT+7 (ICT)

TEL AVIV (BNO NEWS) -- The Israeli military on Tuesday arrested a Palestinian man who was released in October 2011 as part of a prisoner exchange deal to secure the release of Gilad Shalit, officials said.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) arrested Mamun Ismyail Salame Stut on Tuesday for allegedly being a security threat in the area of Dura on the southern West Bank, but few other details were immediately released. He is the first released prisoner to be recaptured since the prisoner swap.

Stut, who was originally arrested in 2002, was sentenced to 38 years in prison for attempted murder, membership of an unidentified organization, assembling bombs and providing asylum. He was originally slated to be released in 2040.

Last year, Israel agreed to free 1,027 prisoners in exchange for the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit who was held in Hamas captivity in Gaza for almost six years. During the first phase in October, Israel released 477 Palestinian prisoners, including participants of some of the bloodiest terrorist attacks of the last decade.

The second phase came in December when 550 additional Palestinian prisoners were released from Israeli prisons. Those released were required to sign a document in which they pledged not to engage in terrorist activity in the future, and Israeli officials said they would hunt down any released prisoners if they are found to have engaged in terrorism again.

Only 1026 left to re-arrest and lock up. saai.gif The word is Taqiyya for anyone interested.

Then again he was re-incarcerated for... allegedly being a security threat in the area of Dura on the southern West Bank,

That is a pretty broad brush they use to paint terror with there.

I wonder if they have an Israeli Patriot Act?

Well he was convicted before for 'membership of an unidentified organization' which does seem a touch vague.

Another version:

"Aiman Shrawna, a resident of the village of Dora near Hebron, was arrested last night by Golani Brigade soldiers, following intelligence reports that he had rejoined Hamas activity. Shrawna was convicted in 2002 in connection with a terror attack in Be'er Sheva, in which 18 people were wounded.

Shrawna was convicted of attempted murder, being a member of a terror organization, manufacturing a bomb and aiding a fugitive, and sentenced to 39 years."
