Flew last year with Etihad to the UK with my wife for a family funeral, had logged her on Etihad Guest as family member, but their software did not accept her name as per her passport as she actually has 2 first names printed in her passport, so I had to put the names together.

I asked Etihad about thie missing miles and was told that as her name on the Etihad Guest profile did not match the one in her passport, then I could not claim the miles back.

Recently I added my Mother in Law as well to the family member list, she has name with a hypen in it, (example Abc-def), this is stated in her passport with the hypen, however Etihad software does not recognise a hypen so again I had to join then names together (Abcdef), now according to Etihad rules, I will not get the points again as the names do not match. I think that the numbers are more important than the names, what if someone changes their name by deedpoll but fails to change their name on the Etihad Guest profile.

I am in contact with them about it but it does not look good, okay only 13500miles.

Just warining others who list family members about the cr8p software they use.

I had a problem with them as well - I hold two passports, UK and Canadian my UK has I guess my real name a double barrelled surname. I never use it and treat it as my middle name. I set the account up with my single surname, when I travelled to the UK I used my UK passport & name their system wouldn't accept the hyphen so I tried to claim the points and they said denied as I entered abcdef - I gave up trying to explain .....lost RT points to YYZ in J class.

I suggest that you post your experiences on the dedicated Etihad Guest Board on Flyertalk.com. I know that Etihad monitor the posts on there and I feel you may well get some satisfaction or at least a greater awareness of the problem on there.

Beano, I just checked my etihad guest card because I too have a double barrelled name and the two names have just been joined on the card and I have recieved my 13,500 points. So I don't know what happened to yours.

For surname or first name? For surname I think it is okay, but for first names it is not.

The problem I have is with first names and not surnames.
