ozzydom
The first thing you should do is find out the cause of your pain, this will require a visit to an orthopedic surgeon. Sciatic pain is usually associated with disc protusion pressing on a nerve, if its a simple case it may be relieved by manipulation but it can also need an operation . A chiropractor is the last person you see as, manipulation can have serious consequences , in the short term acupuncture can give short term relief coupled with medication such as Brufen. Jaykiss
Thanks!!.....Well I have been to a orthopedic surgeon and he said its nerve compression; took prescribed medicines for two weeks..its reduced the pain a bit but still difficulty in walking combined with on and off foot numbness So any suggestions for a good chiropractor (tried and tested) in bkk would be really appreciated
Tywais
I'm going to move this to the Health forum as there are some very qualified people to help try and answer your question.
zippydedodah
i have a couple of friends who (years ago) had their sciatica completely cured by an incredible thai masseuse, in bkk. Took several months of very intense massage sessions (a couple of times a week). One of them went on to become a highly certified and skilled thai masseuse in his own right and has an incredible practice in LA... he cured me (via massage) of arthritis in my neck, shoulders and feet and cured a friend of mine of sciatica. By cured, i mean no re-occurance of the problem and no need for "continued" treatment. I wish i could find the phone number of that blind masseuse in BKK.. i got massages from him over the years and he is incredible. Long story short... i have seen the benefits of massage and would not rule it out as a possibility. If I can track down that blind guy i will message you.
Sheryl
Please be aware that "sciatica" has many causes. and that what may have relieved pain for one person may seriously injure another. you must base treatment on the underlying cause. OP has indicated it is nerve compression (presumably nerve root?) but not indicated from what, nerve compression can be from causes which abate with time (e.g. bulging/prolapsed intervertebral disks) or from causes that will not (e.g. bone spurs impinging on the nerve, erosion of the disks, bnarrowing of the spinal column) in which case only surgery will resolve it and other measures bring at most temporary relief. My best advise is to see Dr. Wicharn or one of his colleagues at the BNH Spine Center for evaluation and recommendation, asking specifically (1) what in his opinion is the cause of the pain (sometimes pain is wrongly ascribed to an abnormal finding that is purely incidental), and (2) what the likelihood is that the pain will resolve without surgery. Bring all films, reports with you to avoid unnecessary repeat tests and expense. As you have been told you have nerve compression, DO NOT see a chiropracter or get a Thai massage without first asking a specialist what type of manipulations can safely be done.and which should be avoided -- and strictly enforce same, or you may wind up in much worse pain than you are in now.

geriatrickid
Thanks!!.....Well I have been to a orthopedic surgeon and he said its nerve compression; took prescribed medicines for two weeks..its reduced the pain a bit but still difficulty in walking combined with on and off foot numbness So any suggestions for a good chiropractor (tried and tested) in bkk would be really appreciated Chiropractors are not medical practioners. They call themselves "doctor" just like the optometrists call themselves doctors of optometry. Nice titles, but, misleading. If the nerve is compressed, then the only tried and true method of relief is to work with a physiotherapist to find the right way of stretching and strengthening. Physiotherapists have the knowledge and the training to respond. The orthopedic specialist should be able to recommend a physiotherapist and provide recommendations. A good physiotherapist will work in conjunction with the physician and not suggest manipulations and pulls that run the risk of exacerbating the problem. Physiotherapists are the professionals that help people regain the use of limbs and manage pain. They have a long history of success.
