Chuwit Demands Govt Take Action To Stamp Out Prostitution In Thailand

webfact

Recommended Posts

the majority of these girls have little to no education, and this is a way of providing sufficient funds for them to survive, and also to send money to family. The thai government needs to encourage the younger generation to try stay in school and also to provide good grants for 3rd level education.

Maybe the government could launch a vocational training school for prostitutes... so as to better enable the local populace to be prepared for entry into the Asian Economic Community...and assisting them in their goals to send money upcountry to the relatives. jerk.gif

BTW, I notice a distinct difference here... Everyone was cheering when Chuwit was going after the illegal casinos and gambling... But now that he's training his spotlight on prostitution, the light seems to be getting a bit glaring for some of the posters here... Hmmm....

Hardly surprising if you ask me, as I for my part see that prostitution is feeding millions...gambling...not likely.

Would I want it to be different?

Hell, yeah...

I travel to London for a business meeting. I'm early so the office junior offers me a coffee and keeps me amused for a while as I am a good customer for the business. As the meeting draws to a close I enquire of the owner if I may spend the remainder of the day with the office junior. I junior is called and told. After a consultation I agree to pay the days wages of the junior because she needs the money and pay the business to hire an agency worker because they need the staff.

Does this mean she is a prostitute?

NO

Strikes me as the usual suspects. You know they newbies who don't know 95% of prostitution in Thailand is Thai on Thai.

The guys who don't have a problem with men who use prostitutes and then go on to call those men sorry, degenerate wanke_rs.

The pseudo economists who don't know that the real effect of hooker dollars is in the neighborhood of 20% GNP. The same guys that don't know the difference between the Gray, Black and Pink markets.

Thailand tries to be the hub of lots of stuff but where it really has a dominant market share they try to hide the fact. Not only are they dominant in Thailand but other countries as well like Singapore.

That's the sort of negative attitude that we can do without. Of course it's possible to stamp it out. It will be extremely difficult, but it's possible to clean it up. We need people like Chuvit to make a stand. It takes time to get these things done, but at least he's making a start, which is more than you're doing, which is sniping from the comfort of your armchair.

Who's 'we', Kimosabe? You got a mouse in your pocket?

Really tiresome seeing all the moralists come out of the woodwork.

Chuwit was not only the Massage Parlor Magnate, but the guy who bulldozed an entire block of bars on Sukhumvit in the wee hours, resulting in massive property loss for those who could hardly afford it. And now, the land lies fallow, as "Chuwit Garden". What was the point?

I can only assume he is attempting to be a pain in the ass to those in power, who sanction the very activities he is protesting.

If he were sincere, he'd be saying "Stamp out corruption, and prostitution will take care of itself..."

Well depends on what sort of spin you want to put on it.

Another way of looking at it, he removed squatters from land he already owned.

As for the land being fallow, there was a sign at the enterance last time I was there that says its a memorial to his mother.

He would still be in the prostitution businss had he not been arrested.

Chuwit Kamolvisit is a controversial Thai politician who was once the country's biggest massage parlor owner. After an arrest in 2003, he went public with his claims of having paid large bribes to hundreds of police officers. He then sold some of his massage parlors, formed his own political party and unsuccessfully ran for Bangkok governor in August 2004. In 2005 he was elected for a four-year term to the Thai House of Representatives, but in 2006 the Constitutional Court removed him from parliament. In October 2008 he again ran for governor of Bangkok as an independent but was not elected.

Angry that police dared to arrest him, he publicly released the amounts of bribes he had regularly paid in the past, along with names of the high ranking police recipients.

1. a person who engages in sexual intercourse for money; whore; harlot;

Yep, in its expanded sense that covers a whole lot of personal relations.

What saddens me is the extraordinary number of single young mothers who end up in this profession.

Its high time the women wised up and ensured that some form of contraception is used. You can't rely on the male once he is thinking with lil' bro, which is most of the time. And surely by now it is plainly obvious that a large number of young guys are not going to accept responsibility for the hangover.

One must strenuously protest this vicious slur against Politicians. Surely none are involved in prostitution?! There must be some ulterior motive in saying this... rolleyes.gif

most politicians are prostitutes anyway selling themselves to the highest bidders

I see it all now. No more prostitution no more drugs no more alcohol.

And every day all of Thailand will attend the church , Temple or Mosque of their choice. Where of course they will donate 10% of their earnings and the government will take 25% of it in envelopes.

People talk about the low quality of the Thai education system. They don't have to test the kids just look at the politicians.

If would be Mr Nice guy want to stamp out prostitution go for it

But before he does give the thousands of girls who support their families another job

That's only about 1.75 M people he needs to find new jobs for.

He could employ them inhis happy ending massage palours

Seems like a great move! Thailand is known for two things the world over:

1. Sex

2. Corruption

So remove the sex and all it'll have left is corruption - I somehow doubt quite so many tourists will come to experience the corruption (even if it is funny at times).

Yes, I got a free carry back (cover for the pickup back), floor mats, foldable wing mirrors, stereo upgrade and a few grand off - but kept my pants on - If I'm making a deal for cash, its cash I'm interested in, not getting my bits wet. If I have them on the ropes I'll screw them fiscally and go home to the mrs for the rest.

The fact that some women will whore themselves even when they are not directly employed to - to earn the commission, is here nor there - a prostitute is someone whose profession is to make money selling sex, not someone who makes money temping as a secretary, or even as someone to plutonically keep you company - and someone can be a whore for a single act like someone can steal something on one occasion still made them a thief even if they were not a profesional thief.

There is ONE primary reason why a girl, whether she be Thai, Russian, English or American and that is MONEY! You cannot wipe out prostitution because it is ALWAYS ahead on the wage front. If you put up factory wages to 10,000TBH per day then the prostitutes will charge 30,000 per hour! In the UK a prostitute will cost you (for a good one at least £100 per hour), in Thailand a good prostitue will cost you 3000THB (yes you can get some skank from a bar for as little as 700THB. So let's consider the lowest of the low, cheapest whore you can get in Thailand, let's say 500THB for 1 hour. My wife's last job was in a factory as a quality control inspector - for the whole day including 7 hours overtime she received just shy of 400THB - FOR THE DAY!

The temptation to turn to prostitution is always there for many girls/women - purely because of the money they can earn. I know girls in the UK who have less than twenty regular customers and earn in excess of £8k per month - from those clients alone! It also is a job you can carry on doing until your old age! Nowadays if a pensioner was offering herself she'd go for a premium amount, because it's regarded as a fetish!

You can never, and will never stamp out prostitution, you'll just drive it further and further underground, and as a consequence the prices will go up and up and up.

Whatever country you are in you can guarantee that to buy a whore will cost you roughly 3x a low daily wage for just one hour! As I said, in the UK you'll struggle to find anything decent for less than £100 per hour! How many people in the UK are earning £100 per day? Tax free? Even a moderate skank in the UK will be earning in excess of £500 per day. The exact same is true in Thailand!

In the apartment block where I live the girl who owns the shop was struggling to make ends meet, then a man from one of the apartments offered her 5000THB for sex. She had sex with him, word spread and now she is fully booked for sex and the shop is hardly ever open! She's Thai, all her clients are Thai men and they gladly pay 5000THB just for sex! She's now just bought a brand new car and is saving to build a house for her parents!

If nobody wants to sell sex, it is a crime to force anyone to do so. But when men or women do want to sell their bodies, they should have that full right without encountering punishment or discrimination. If the client behaves decently, the relationship between the sex buyer and the sex seller must be considered a purely private transaction.

No problem with that. Prostitution is worldwide where there are legal brothels visited by the desparate and lonely. In Thailand it is out in the open, move it into brothels and behind closed doors away from public view. The sex tourist can enter the brothel, dump his load and move on. The girls won't be druugging the victim inside a brothel where he will pass out for hours as they need the bed for the next punter. The punter won't be fleeced of all the valuables unless he is stupid enough to take them all to the brothel. A brothel would be more controlled

Absolutely. A good, healthy dose of hypocrisy and sexual repression is exactly what Thailand needs to become a one-meal-a-day country.

The streets do need to be cleaned up a lot with prostitution in your face 24/7 and the image doesn't really fit that of a family holiday destination.

It depends on what street's you walk down doesn't it ?

But this article is incredibly naive for so many reasons, a big one being the very low number of one million prostitutes in Thailand first and foremost me thinks.

IMO it sounds a bit high , if there are 34 m females in thailand , and the main age group for working girls is around 16-36yrs , meaning about 25% of the female population = around 8.5 million , ...........i know the numbers are high, but dont believe 1 in 8 is a prostitute ,.... , its estimated there are 30,000 in pattaya and i think i read 120,000 in bkk,.......... but no other city comes close to these two , i could be wrong of coarse ,...... just my take on it

it is interesting that there are 2 articles here. One on human-trafficking and one on teen pregnancies. I am not sure that there is that much of a correlation between the 2 and I suspect that they are separate problems.

On the other hand, one of the solutions - educating girls and young women - addresses both issues.

Stamping it out is simply impossible, perhaps better to try to discourage under-age prostitution, and to send a stronger message to the world's pedophiles, to go elsewhere ?

Guys guys guys,.... thailand does not have prostitution. Prostitution is where you pay a lady in advance and has sex with her. Women practise extortion!. The systems in place to protect its operations;- the ladies consent to sex, (thats NOT prostitution), later they drain you of your funds and pension. Perhaps we should look at the larger picture of what Thailand demands to be on their banks here for business people, People receiving pension and the lot. Is it necessary? As an European you can travel, work and retire n the EU without all these tall demands. But to come here and get sucked of all that we have earned....thats what keeps this industry hard to define. Words Words Words..... ignorant words tickling the masses and perhaps covering his tracks. Tourism thrives with the gogo bars!!!! Do these women have licenses? Do these women have social insurances? Are they registered in any system that defines their work and pay for tax purposes? Common on....put the structure in place, before waving the flag!

Is this a Joke! Stamp out the oldest profession in the world! lots of luck..

Perhaps the Chuwit should promote a program to educate these women with skills other than selling theirn pussy. Skills that would put them on parr with computer repair people, electricians, auto mechancs, air -conditioning mechanics. I doubt very seriously wrhether any woman from any culture

like selling their favors.

The bottom line is that the money can be extemely good but the risks are high.

Perhaps they should also round up all the dead beat Thai fathers who have avoided any and all financial responsibicelty in supporting children they

has helped to produce and throw them in Jail where they belong.

Most of these women come from poor familites so elducationg seems to be a key player. Most of their women have no means to support, feed and clothe their chil dren..

Untill the political situration changes and women gain more power to pass laws against Thai fathers who do not contribute anything but getting off

their jollies, nothing will be done.

th

Perhaps Chuit can help to pass laws on this accord, before he shoots off his mouth. My guess he has perhaps fathered some children he doesen't

even know about.

yes chum you hit the nail on the Head! Educate the grandmother not to put pressure on the young girls. Perhaps Chuit should talk with the Tourism Dept, the Police Force and define the word Prostitution. then close down all the go go bars and shabby hotels. Keep it like some countries - produce ID with the room rental. That would slow down somethings but increase the bibery.... this fox is only chasing its tail....

The difficulty here is in defining who is a prostitute and who isn't. My first encounter with my Thai wife was a financial one, in other words I paid her to have sex with me. But I could just have easily have become married to an estate agent, a hotel receptionist, a manager of an Internet cafe or an optician. I did not pay for sex with them, but all these ladies had one thing in common, they intended to meet and marry a farang to improve their lives and the lives of their families. All are graduates including my spouse. They were from Chonburi, Sri Racha, Bangkok, Phuket and Khorat so no preponderance of Isaan

Can you truly differentiate between these 5 ladies? At the end of the day they will all cost you money in one way or another.

But that's life. Ladies from all parts of the globe sell their bodies in one guise or another. Even women who are of independent means often turn to their male partners for financial support.

Prostitution is here to stay. In UK it's endemic. The important thing is to make sex as safe as possible, and to try to dissuade very young people from engaging in it.

Yes, good observations. A good friend of mine, who is the director of a major foundation here in Bangkok, that helps women infected with HIV told me that per capita, there are more than double the amount of woman involved in the sex trade in the US, than there is here in Thailand. But, the problem is that it is so far underground, that most people do not see it, and therefore assume it does not exist. But there are hundreds of thousands of people invoiced in porn, and I estimate a couple of million escorts and strippers. Also, in the US you cannot get laid, without putting out cash for dinners, gifts and prizes. So, even the normal gals there have a price. It is just less honest, since it is not stated up front. When I was dating back there I often thought it would be a good idea, to bring along a pen and a notebook, hand it to the woman, and ask her for an estimate, of what she thought it was going to end up costing me to get some action.

Goverment schools are allready free and any Thai can get a loan to do University. It's not the government but the school boards that don't enable students do work part time, why? Because they hold classes, activities, and exams on weekends and after/before school hours so working part-time is not an option and moonlighting as a sideline girl the only form of work they can get. As for guys, yes they do it to, only half the guys in a gay bar are actually gay!

Absolutely untrue. There is no such thing as free education in Thailand. There are significant expenses that have to be paid, even though the government says it is free. Bribes have to be paid to every teacher in Thailand, as well as books, and many other expenses that many families cannot afford. And university is very difficult to get into, for most women. So, your assessment could not be further from the reality on the ground.

Yes, they are the world police! And they love being so. And they are the moral police. The US government is as close to a Saudi type moral police, as there is. They are preaching morality all over the world, in whatever country accepts their aid. And Thailand is no exception to that rule.
