Foreigner Wearing A Pendant Of The King

No more than it would be to see a thai girl wearing a cross pendant.

I mean to say.. NO. It is not inappropriate at all. As long as you wear it with respect then all is well.

I personally have always been a big fan of King IV and even have pictures of him on my wall in my office.

perceived as inappropriate by who exactly? I would certainly dismiss it as somewhat ridiculous.

If you are immune to the odd snicker, go for it. i am sure few Thais would actually be offended.

btw i too have much respect for HRH.

The advice I received when I first came to Thailand was never to offer an opinion on the King or the royal family. Certainly never a critical opinion but also not a possitive opinion - just no opinion.

I think it good advice on the basis it keeps me/you put of a very emotive subject and one which that might be open for misunderstanding with very serious consequences.

I don't think it's ridiculous at all. If you feel something special for HRH or King IV or a particular monk I don't see what's wrong with wearing it. The most important thing well dealing with the Royals is that you need to always remember to treat the subject with the up most respect. Be that when handling money with HRH on it or a medallion or a picture or just talking about it. Anything negative or even construed as negative is strictly forbidden and should be avoided at all costs.

I have won a few at running events here in Thailand. I wear them at the event that presented it to me. Each one is a picture of the king and each one a different picture. After the event I place them with all the budda images at home I have received from friends here in Thailand.

Guys.. it's most likely Rama V, not IV. Especially if you have pictures and hangers of him you should know these things. And I would agree he was a really cool guy.

Check Wikipedia.

Yes it is 5 and not IV. I was saying 5 as I was typing IV. dam_n romans.. thanks for the correction.
