It is interesting to read the praise of MP Nattawut and Jatuporn as powerfull heavyweights and how usefull that is to them in a parliamentary debate. Oh, how I miss k. Arisman.

Physical violence is a sign of verbal incompetence.

I miss my hero Arisman also.

Not sure what physical violence is being referenced here, The armed coup-ist attack, or the reaction to it.

This chicken and egg thing can be confusing if one doesn't keep things in its correct order.

You know exactly what the reference is, but you are using the saying "I'm sorry" ploy when you are pretending not to hear someone.

I had hoped that it would be clear and obvious [sic] that I'm referring to the OP which is about "House Battle Breaks Out". Ah well, if only the forum rules would allow me to write in large bold capital letters maybe that could have led to a better understanding whistling.gif

House breaks out in battle

Democracy in action smile.png

More like Dumbocracy in traction.

This is not democracy in action. This is Thailand's shame. Thailand is run by these people in the House of these representatives. They should all be in the Jerry Springer Show.

Thailand is not ready for democracy. We need a communist leader for at least a decade and teach these bastards some discipline. Then will they know how not to abuse freedom.

Not convinced this would work. Look at Vietnam and China. Abuses still happen but it less talked about because people are scared.

Regarding Yinglucks meeting. Wonder what the details are? Surely being the PM does not allow you to enrich yourself and the family?

This flood is turning out to have a golden lining. I recon there will plenty of opportunity for graft on a huge scale while noblely 'saving the country from future floods'.

So who was she alleged to have met? Since the media already know why doesn't someone tell here? Was it a naught hotel thing or a secret deal to corrupt money from the government? Someone please spill the beans...

Glad to see some democracy and accountability happening in this country.

Or she could just end the speculation and tells us herself.

It has now been confirmed in the paper that can not be quoted that property tycoon Srettha Thavisin, president of the SET-listed property developer Sansiri Plc, has publicly stated late Friday night that he was one of six or seven who met with the PM on the 7th floor of the Four Seasons. The Bangkok Post article goes on to explain that Sretta is related to Nalinee Taveesin, the new appointee of infamous US blacklist fame that caused a scandal recently.

So, the question remains, was this meeting a conflict of interest? Given all the secrecy behind it it sure appears that way. Time for her to come clean about who all the people were and what was discussed at this unofficial meeting. The longer she resists this the worse things will get.

Yes, it's a tempest in a tea cup. What difference does it make that she was at a fancy hotel? Is she not permitted to have any life outside of government? If this is an example of Thailand's greatest problems, Thailand is indeed in serious trouble. Gossip seems to be the democrats main agenda.

I don't think she should have a business life outside of government.

Why not ??

Very many politicians in many countries do so.

Look at the USA

Putin will tell you he's as poor as a church mouse. Forbes say he's one of the richest men in the world.

Share of freedom. In china, the politicians are the only free people who treat their citizens like animals. Vietnam, on the other hand, has reformed. They are democratic yet they observe the limits of their freedom so as not to kill their own country. Unlike Thailand of course. 'Bring the money to me'. Thats whats most important in Thailand now. No regards.

As for the flood thingy, do not depend on the government to solve this. We pay tax so they can protect our well being, but when it comes to water management, it is in a grey area. They can always say it's act of god. so, Trust yourself and follow your instincts. My cats and dogs arent blaming me of the flood.. If I rescue them in the process of rescuing myself, then they're safe. If not, Then they drown with me. The government will never win when it comes to this matter. If they rescue everyone to higher grounds, they will be hammered with property loss. Come to reality, boys and girls!!!

After readind the headline I'm mildly disappointed that the house battle mentioned wasn't a B-Boy one. The sight of Aphisit top rocking whilst Chalerm gets into the freeze position for about 10 seconds much to the delight of the PTP Posse would have been priceless.

And in the surreal "Alice Down The Rabbit Hole on Mescalin, Ketamin and PCP With A Dose Of The Banana Splits Show Thrown In For Good Measure" world of Thai politics not totally unexpected.

Lack of transparency, conflict of interest, impropriety, sexual liaison?

Well as of a few minutes ago in the Nation, 3 Democrats are to be sued for discrediting and defaming the Prime Minister. So the shoe is on the other foot.

And you don't understand that this is a standard Shinawatra tactic to suppress criticism. I'm surprised that the reporter's covering the story haven't been included in the suit.

I could careless who she wants to sleep with if it's the same species.

The first three words of that make no sense whatsoever - is it some sort of faranglish truncation of what should actually be five words?

I don't get this terminology either, though I see a lot of people say they

'could care less'

when the gist of what they're saying is that in fact they

'couldn't care less'.

If you could care less, surely it means that to a certain extent, you do care since it is possible to care less.

If you couldn't care less it means that you are at the zero level of caring, as it is impossible to care less than not at all.

If it's an American thing, maybe an American person can explain it to me. As an Englishman, I naturally find this use of the English language annoying of course, but have up till now kept my annoyance to myself. But since you've brought it up....

I could care less, yes, I think it's an Americanism. I grew up with it. Saying or hearing I couldn't care less sounds funny to me. The usage is not going away.

Personally, I agree with the theory that the seemingly odd usage was due to the cultural influence of Yiddish language irony/sarcasm on American pop culture. There aren't a lot of Yiddish speakers left alive but there were many in our cultural capital New York at a seminal time. But if you want to think we're just stupid and don't know what we're actually saying, we could care less.

As Liberman observed in a 2004 post at Language Log, “could care less” is not uniquely odd. Its pattern is familiar in other phrases like “I could give a dam_n” (and its ruder variants), and in the lyrics of Sammy Cahn’s 1940s classic, “I Should Care.” But whatever its sources — sarcasm, irony, Yiddish, or (as its detractors say) ignorance — “could care less” is snugly embedded in the American idiom. Yet the complaints keep rolling in.
