I Need A New Lawn-Mower

I have a Briggs & Stratton mower which is nearly 9 years old. I'm sure there are still some years left in it but I can't get anyone to repair it. It has an engine problem, probably piston rings as it's using lots of oil and smoking. I recently took it to a mower repair shop near the Suk. rd. Thai intersection but the guy refused to look at it because it was Briggs & Stratton, said I should get a Honda because they never go wrong! Anyway, the shops that sell mowers seem to push the Honda models probably because they are more expensive. When I've asked about other brands they just shrug their shoulders and smile. Home Pro and Home Works have a brand called Asgatec and I was wondering if anyone on here had bought one? If so, can you recommend the brand or should I just bite the bullet and buy Honda? If anyone has any advice on this subject of mowers ( preferably the mechanical type ) I would appreciate it. Does anyone know of another mower specialist other than the ones at Pattaya Nua ( near bus station ) Pattaya Thai or either Home Pro or Works?

Thanks!

Go to the shop close to the Highway Police on Sukhumvit, quite big just north of the Highway Police, you will see mowers, pumps, strimmers etc outside, Big yellow sign i think it is something like "Chaiy Machine?"

Chinese/Thai lady that owns it, they also have a shop more or less opposite Foodland, they sell and service Briggs & Stratton and Honda petrol powered mowers.

In the UK a few years ago Briggs & Stratton was the engine to have on your mower, but nowadays Honda is the way to go, especially here.

We have a number of four stroke rotary grass cutters also several two stroke swing cutters, they all now get serviced and re built with new rings etc at a motorcycle shop as the engines are similar.

The only problem we ever had was with a four stroke OHC Honda swing cutter that was serviced at a so called grass cutter service shop and they succeeded in breaking the piston rings as well as putting it back together incorrectly so the OHC timing was out. They were never able to understand the sophisticated Honda engine and we ended up giving it away.

I have a honda 4 stroke and it was running badly and very smokey so I opened up the air filter and it was blocked solid and when I removed the spark plug it was in very poor condition after both parts were replaced it runs like new. It might be worth checking before you go to the expense of buying a new machine.

Sorry I haven't replied, hard drive on comp. packed up!

LennyW--I think I can remember seeing that shop on Suk. rd. but when I tried to find it the other day I either missed it or it's no longer there.

As for an electric machine-- all the ones I've seen are quite small--30cm. cutter. It would take an age to cut my grass! There's also a lot of trees in my garden so I don't want to get tangled up!

I really want to find a repair place that someone has used and can reccomend them or who has bought one of the mowers that are currently on sale at Home Pro or Home Mart-- Asgatec.

Pattayapope-- I'm pretty sure it's more than a blocked filter because when I run it it uses more oil than petrol.

Whenever I've taken the mower for repair and service they've just got it running and then think it's OK!

Thanks for the replies.

That shop is still there, if you are coming from Pattaya Klang towards Pattaya Tai on Sukhumvit it must be about half way - about 100m before you come to the Highway police station.

The shop on Sukhumvit is gone, and they rent the place out to two other businesses. The shop across foodland is stil there but they stopped selling Briggs and Stratton approximately 10 years ago.

I know because I bought a Honda Lawn cutter from them the other day and asked if they didn't sell B & S.They still service the Briggs and Stratton with the parts they have in stock since the current B&S is made in China and there is no importer in Thailand anymore.

B & S is sold at Global house Chonburi and Rayong at 15900 Baht for a 5.5 Hp 190CC self propelled with all bells and whistles including a 56 cm cutting knife. They don't service machines however and that made me decide to buy a Honda where I would preferred the B&S

I bought a Honda 160GXV lawn mower last year at Tool Pro (Udon). The machine is fine, but I'm unable to find a 21" replacement blade in the area. Tool Pro is ordering one for me (only one available), but they won't reveal where they're getting it from (I assume Bangkok).

Searching online for Honda lawn mower parts came up empty. Can anyone give me an idea where (in Bangkok, Korat, Khonkaen) these blades might be available?

Sorry, can't tell you where to get new blade from but surely after 1 year it shouldn't need a new blade!

My original blade lasted many years and I sharpened it myself with a small grinding wheel on a Black&Decker. It was made from thickish steel. Then on one of the times it went into the shop for a "service" I foolishly asked them to sharpen the blade. I didn't notice for a while but they had exchanged it for a thin piece of steel that wasn't up to the job.

My mower at the moment is in a shop waiting for new parts! It's nearly 6 weeks since I left it with them and I'm beginning to think it's not going to see the light of day anytime soon.

I still have my 21" Honda GXV 160 lawnmower that I purchased to ToolPro a year and a half ago. The engine is perfect. But the rest of the machine is low quality. Finding parts in Udon is difficult/impossible......and rely on Toolpro to order from Bangkok. Sometimes I get what I need, sometimes not.....but don't like not knowing what's available and what's not.

I'd prefer a better quality lawnmower. We have an acre of land.....manicured.....regularly watered, so it needs regular mowing. Surely there must be something better available than what Global, Homepro, Toolpro have for offer. The only option I can see online is huskymowersthailand.com which is in Chiangmai......and I'm not especially keen on husky.

I'm not opposed to spending upwards of $1000 on a self-propelled top quality lawnmower.....I know they're out there in this country.......but can't find them.

anyone?
