Architectually Inspiring And Well Designed Hotel/Resort Sought

Featured Replies

Title says it all. Need to vacate the house for a couple days and desire a hotel or resort that has some inspiring or different architecture rather than the same old drab and boring resorts. Would also prefer if it had Wifi.

Chiang Mai area preferred but if there is something interesting as far as Sanpataong, Chiang Dao or Pai I'm all ears.

Thanks in advance.

I have stayed at Rachamankha and found it a bit boring... The rooms have no windows and the whole place is a bit heavy and stark like a temple... Their sister hotel Tamarind Village http://www.tamarindvillage.com/photo-gallery.php has a more inspiring feel and nice grounds and lots of places to eat & enjoy nearby...

Also The Rim Chiang Mai is nice but a bit overdone http://www.therimchiangmai.com/

The Chedi is nice too with a beautiful restaurant on the river - Do the afternoon high tea...

The Dhara Devi aspires to that and if you were just a tourist on a one week stay you'd say it filled the bill. Anyone who'd watched it being built or knew any of the principles involved would probably disagree however. The Four Seasons is nice, if a bit "touristy".

Anyhow, if you're not looking for pure authenticity, there are dozens and dozens of nice "Lanna" style accomodations available in the nearby area.

Why stay in Chiang Mai? An hour and 15 minutes on the Chiang Rai Road, just outside of Wiang Pa Pau is The Suanthip Vana Resort. Beautiful place with great rooms. Quiet and never anyone in there except when a tour bus rolls through. Big pool, massage and great sauna. Empty bar with a big screen to watch movies. A great base to go to Chiang Rai, Chang Saen and Mae Sai or to go over the hill to Fang or Chiang Dao. You can book on Agaoda for 2500 Baht or so a night. Only drawback is the small TV in the room and the firm beds. Bring a Playstaion or dvd player to watch movies in the room or they can put a movie into their in house system. Ride free bikes or hike around the property. Breakfast included.

again..if you are willing to go the distance... i have put this place on my short list of hotels i want to stay at...

believe that the King once stayed there...

A little over halfway to Chiang Dao, so if you want to visit the caves, is easy...
