Thai Subtitle Download

Featured Replies

I tried to download Thai subtitles for English movies to try to improve my Thai but so far the files that I have downloaded appear gibberish. Only the time codes are not. Example:

Dialogue: Marked=0,0:06:04.15,0:06:08.70,Default,,0000,0000,0000,,·∫∫π’È¡’™‘Èπ‡¥’¬«π– \N‡ªÁπ ¡∫—µ‘¢Õß°—ªµ—π‡√◊Õ‡°Ë“

Dialogue: Marked=0,0:06:09.32,0:06:10.36,Default,,0000,0000,0000,,¬Ÿπ‘§Õ√Ïπ

Dialogue: Marked=0,0:06:10.45,0:06:13.03,Default,,0000,0000,0000,,‡√◊Õ√∫ ¬Ÿπ‘§Õ√Ïπ

Obviously, it is an encoding problem. Any tips? The file is in ssa format.

I bought a few DVDs with Thai subtitles when I was in Thailand. I was hoping to extract out these Thai subtitles but was not going anywhere because subtitles in DVDs, I realised later on, are in image form rather than editable text. Recently I managed to extract the subtitles image using Avidemux. Unfortunately, the OCR in Avidemux does not accept the Thai text I keyed in (probably not Unicode compatible). Even for the English subtitles, the OCR didn't work that well. But at least for now, I can read each line of the Thai subtitle and type into another text editor but that would be tedious even though I can now type Thai like a native. So I hope someone can tell me how I can read these Thai subtitle ssa files from sites such as thaisubtitle dot com.

I don't know if you saw this post or not or if it will help. It's over my head.

Looks like an encoding problem. Can you open the file with Notepad++?

What does the encoding at the bottom say?

Thanks. I finally solved the problem by opening it with Open Office. They present me with the encoding options and voila, I got the subtitle file to read proper Thai.

Interesting post cited. I presume it's Window based solutions but right now I am using Mac. Will give it a go when I get my Windows notebook.

Thanks!
