In Chiang Mai, School Training Blind Girls

Featured Replies

We have a couple of girls staying with us, that read in one of the guide books, about there being a school training blind Thai girls Trad Thai Massage. This is supposed to be in CM.

I have heard about Wat Po in Bkk, but not one that trains and gives Trad Thai Massage in Chiang Mai.

I know that this will probably stir up some of the usual perverts aboard, but it is meant in all seriousness. {no Pun Pun intended}

Anyone have any information on this ???

Yes there is one, I saw it walking about one day. From memory it is somewhere in the area the old Je'tAime guest house was.

There is also a big school for the blind in ChiangMai....I do not know which they refer to.

Thank You , ever Helpful Harry..... but I think the place you mean is the home for those with compulsive eating disorders.

Now , I said compulsive, not repulsive.

THought that was your place Gonzo. You are a bit far to get to now.

This was several years ago so not sure if it is still valid but there was one near Wat Prasing.

There is a blind massage place here (18.78561,98.9876). If they don't teach, I'm sure they all learned somewhere.

Massage by blind masseurs just 50m up soi 9 Moonmuang Road on the left as you walk from the moat. Not far from Riders' Corner.

Think the OP was more interested in places that teach.

This page mentions massage: The Northern School for the Blind under the Patronage of the Queen

Actually, it is PAST the roundabout. Coming up to that roundabout from town, take the 3 exit (with the police box on the right) and the blind massage you are talking about is 20 metres on the LEFT.

The place you are thinking of Dave is the normal Thai massage school.

Be careful!

Yes, there is a school for the blind in Chiang Mai. If you are really sincere to help, you will find it.

There are other things involved beyond finding the location of such a place. Chiang Mai, being the nominal (and certainly administrative) capital of Northern Thailand tends to have"centers" of various activities. NGO and voluntarism are profit centers here for some people.

Two thoughts. First, volunteers from abroad looking for "feel good" or "finding myself" sojourns in a "poor" country should think about their motives and experience rather than how to obtain LOS visas for sun and fun while being volunteers. Second, organizations here have warts just like their kind in other countries. So, volunteers not only should be sure of their motives but also be prepared to deal with realities.

Many places for blind massage. The blind school behind Wat Pra Sing would be my first port of call. There are many others dotted around the city but these are just place to be massaged rather than training centers.
