BANGKOK: -- Liam Ayudhkij, one of Thailand's long-time business leaders and chairman of Property Care Services (Thailand) Ltd, has passed away at the age of 67.

Liam has fought his illness for many months with great determination and strength but just within that last few days he deteriorated rapidly.

Born in 1945 in Dublin, Ireland, he had lived in Thailand for more than 40 years as a Thai citizen. Liam commenced as general manager with the original PCS Company in 1969 and became chairman in 1995 on the death of the late Chairman Maj Gen MR Kukrit Pramoj.

Originally the company was part of lnchcape Group of Companies but in 1989 Liam launched a management buyout and that is also when the OCS Group of the UK became shareholders. PCS is now an associate company of OCS Group.

Under Liam's directorship the company has grown from a team of 5 staffs offering only pest control services to its present size of more than 23,000 staffs providing A "One stop service" for property and facility support and maintenance needs.

Liam was actively involved in community projects within Thailand including holding the positions of: Secretary and Director of Medical Scholarship Foundation under Auspices of HRH Princess Kalayani; Director of Cheshire Homes Thailand; Director of the Support the Children Foundation Chiangmai, Director HRH Princess Mother's Pra Maeta Projects and Vice President of Bangkok Nursing Home Association.

He was also the founding sponsor of the Junior Dublin Literary Awards for Thailand, now in its 8th year as the leading annual English essay contest organised by The Nation and Nation Junior.

A man of compassion, Liam was also a lover of the arts. He opened a gallery in Pattaya to promote both Thai and international artists.

Liam’s funeral takes place every evening until Friday at Wat Thad Thong.
