Basically anywhere in Asia is pretty easy (except Japan). Outside of Asia is where it gets trickier.

hi andy do you know anything about this ? why can a thai girl not take a holiday anywhere

in the world ? are they prisoners in their own country ?

Thai people are certainly not prisoners in their own country, they can visit any country in the world, all they have to do is apply for a visa.

My girlfriend and I have visited ten countries in Asia, some Asian countries are more cautious than others, and as a 23 year old she applied for visas for the UK and the Schengen Area, both were granted on the first time of applying.

I would say that applications are not tricky at all, the applicant just has to convince the relevant authorities that that the trip is genuine, affordable and they are likely to return home at the conclusion of the trip, if they can do that they will, more than likely, be granted a visa.

+1

Do the research for the country you are planning to get the visa from and be honest with the applications. As oldgit said, it seems to me they are most concerned with the Thai's reason to return to Thailand (or in my Mrs case - Laos)

convince the authorities !!!! thats excatly what i am on about. ladies from the UK/USA/Europe dont have to convince the authorities that they are going to come home. so what does that make Thai ladies ( prisoners in their own country)

It makes them victims of realistic thinking on the part of the Embassies to which they are applying.

Historically, people from Thailand (and many other poor asean countries) have been known as/ to be economic migrants, leaving for another country stay illegally/ working etc and send money home for the families.

There is/was a huge trade in Thai females supposedly going on holiday and becoming prostitutes, either by design or being trafficked by unscrupulous gangs etc.

Hence the question of "whether they will return to Thailand" seems to be the key question and not potentially becoming a problem.

Too many have lied and conned their way out for whatever reasons and now as a result the authorities are hyper sensitive as to the motives for travel, baring in mind the economic status of the majority would mean that a "holiday" to the US as an example is in most cases unlikely.

Just my opinion.
