karlos Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Just had service done, 12k major, found Oxygen sensor is bad, after being replaced, they had to order one as usual not in stock, we will see what happens to the mileage. I don't expect it to change much if any. How did they notice, did it throw up an error code or an FI light? I've seen this fault on a few 650's now and have noticed the fuel consumption has changed on my 2012 Ninja 650 (12,300km) covered now

I don't expect it to change much if any. How did they notice, did it throw up an error code or an FI light? I've seen this fault on a few 650's now and have noticed the fuel consumption has changed on my 2012 Ninja 650 (12,300km) covered now When I was riding the FI light came on and went off several times during a month, seemed to only happen after driving over 100kph for extended times, something like 1 hour or so. Pulled the codes from the computer and "code 33" is O2 sensor fault. They did some additional testing, about 45 minutes to ensure it wasn't a short circuit before they determined it was a failed O2 sensor which tells me this is probably not the first time they have had this issue, after all the computer codes are a guide and don't mean for certain a particular part is bad. Warrantee replacement after it arrives. It appears that these sensors don't go bad often but than again my FI light wouldn't stay on all the time and the sensor is bad so if your experiencing poor fuel economy maybe you have a bad O2 sensor. Not sure but maybe this will force the bike into a safety mode (I think it's called closed loop or something) which means a richer fuel mix to ensure your not running to lean since there is no data coming from the O2 sensor to tell the computer what your range is. This means you will use more fuel all the time. 1
commande Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Update, out of curiosity I just checked the km driven on my Versys this tank of fuel. Appears that the failed O2 sensor is definitely affecting my fuel economy as I am almost out of gas, fuel light is on and have only driven 265 kilometers. This is a BIG drop in economy, much greater fuel consumption. Can't wait till that new sensor arrives.

I'll see how much i get out of my tank on my trip to Khao yai tomorrow
YipYipYa123 Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 I think 265km is good before you get the warning flash,I usually get less and I have no error with the oxygen sensor:-(

I only get around 180 km but I've only used it in Bangkok's heavy traffic for now. A lot of stop and go.
Polanskiman Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 (edited) versys tank is 4-5 litres larger Wrong again, as usual the versys tank is not larger than the er6n ? thats funny because im sitting beside an owner now who says it is Yes, it is, but not 4 or 5 liters bigger Do a little research before you post up such nonsense FYI, EX650 tank is 4.1 gallon, KLE650 tank is 5.0 gallon. I wonder if you know how to convert that to liters? Don't want to created any conflict here between you guys but by curiosity I did convert Gallon into Liters with my unit converter widget . Here is what came out: ER-6n >> 4.1 gallon (US) = 15.520188 liters Versys >> 5 gallon (US) = 18.927059 liters thus a difference of 0.9 gallon (US) or 3.406871 liters . That's if we use gallon (US) as the reference unit. Now, if we use liters as the reference unit, then it would be: ER-6n >> 15.5 liters = 4.0946668 gallon (US) Versys >> 19 liters = 5.019269 gallon (US) thus a difference of 3.5 liters or 0.9246022 gallon (US). Overall we can say that there is approximately a 0.09 liter or a 0.02 gallon discrepancy depending which unit we chose to use. Tony, Wana, peace! Edited May 9, 2012 by Polanskiman
mrclough Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Or 4.18 Imperial Gallons for the Versys 3.4 Imperial Gallons for the er6n ...... I think lol
Polanskiman Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Or 4.18 Imperial Gallons for the Versys 3.4 Imperial Gallons for the er6n ...... I think lol Nice. Initially I also mentioned the imperial gallon unit but then decided to edit the post to simplify
