Slow Usb 3 Transfers

Featured Replies

I am using a samsung s2 1 terrabite usb 3 portrable external hard drive, and am confused why it is so slow. I am transferring files at about 25 mb/sec but believe it should be a lot faster. The computer I am using is an Acer Aspire 4750 intel core i3-2310m with a 2 GB ddr memory, it has a usb 3 port which I am using. As I understand it the transfer rate is dependant on the speed of the HDD on the laptop itself. But i find it hard to believe that they would put a usb port on a computer that could not handle it. Does anybody know how I can find the speed of the HDD (I am using windows 7 professional) and also how I can tell if it is fast enough for the usb transfer. I would also be interested in any fixes people may have.

Cheers

Many transfer speed utils on the inet.

But, try disabling your antivirus and do a transfer. Your laptop seems fast enough to handle usb 3.0.

Not uncommon for there to be a BIG difference between theoretical/rated speed and real world speed especially when considering the test conditions...and this is evident in USB 3 and USB 2 interface/hard drive. Take a look at this article which I think gives a good overview/comparison. Within the article, you may need to click/double click on the USB 3 speed test image/chart to get it to pull-up. Yeap, you have advertising hype and the real world.
