BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra Monday denied that the new charter would be drafted in a way that would allow her brother, former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, to return to Thailand soon.

"No, he won't get to come back," Yingluck replied when reporters asked her if conflict would flare up again if Thaksin returned to the country.

Yingluck insisted that the on-going charter amendment was not aimed at helping anyone in particular.

She said the amendments sought to set up a new constitution drafting assembly and critics were worrying too much.

The prime minister was commenting on the announcement by the yellow-shirt movement or the People's Alliance for Democracy that it would campaign against charter amendments.

She said the on-going debate on the amendment of Article 291 by a special parliamentary committee is focusing on how to have the new CDA best represent the people.

Yingluck added that Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung was airing his personal opinion when he said Thaksin would be allowed to return home.

Yingluck said her government would take the national interests into account.

She said she would like the opponents of charter amendments to wait to see how the process of Parliament unfolds first.

When Yingluck speaks think of what she says as coming out of one side of Thaksin's mouth and what Chalerm says coming out of the other side of Thaksin's mouth and you will have a perfect perspective. Voila!

:) That kinda says it all...

The way the PM speaks one may be excused to wonder why after cabinet post selection criteria 'knowledge', 'capabilities', 'potential' and amended with 'suitability' the PM still has to defend her cabinet of wonders. Maybe the criteria she was selected by was 'loyalty' ?

As the head of government and the keeper of the law she should have added, if he comes back he will serve his jail sentence----- Fat chance of her saying this.

Beside why should he come back. He is the Thailand PM from Dubai

dam_n, she is smooth.

She far exceeds my expectations.

The way she has skated through the Opposition minefields, and they haven't laid a finger on her.

All the more remarkable, she is doing it while retaining solid support from her political base.

The pressures on her must be immense, when one checks off the numerous and powerful Oppositional elements - think about them.

What may appear to be political double-speak and obfuscation, is political brilliance, given the political environment within which she needs to function.

Her disaster leadership were second to none, and her muscular cabinet reshuffling, with threats of more to come if the boys don't pay attention to her, and no-one else, was impressive.

Now, this Thaksin thing.

PM says her brother will not return to Thailand

BANGKOK, 12 March 2012 (NNT)-Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has said her plan to amend the Constitution is not for the benefit of someone in particular, adding that she would welcome opinions from all sides.

The Prime Minister said, following the protest by the group of the yellow shirt or People Alliance’s for Democracy (PAD) against the charter amendment, that she would like to see the restoration of national unity and that she would listen to all suggestions and comments from everyone.

Meanwhile, she added that what her Deputy Prime Minister, Police Captain Chalerm Yubanrung, said about Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra’s return was his personal opinion, although, she said, it would depend on the parliamentary process.

She said the charter amendment of section 291 might have gotten people thinking that it was an attempt to bring her brother back while, in fact, it was merely about the establishment of a Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA). When asked by one reporter point blank whether she though Mr. Thaksin would return to Thailand, the Prime Minister simply replied ‘no’.

PM: Thaksin Not Coming Back Yet

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung says he will spend the next five months educating the public across the country about his version of a national reconciliation bill. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says her brother former prime minister Thaksin is not returning home yet.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said the remark made by her deputy Police Captain Chalerm Yubamrung that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will return home this year was merely a personal opinion and that her brother is not coming back yet.

She reiterated that the constitution amendment does not aim to favor any individual in particular.

The premier noted that many have gone too far by speculating on the details of the amendment, as the constitutional provision currently in consideration concerns the selection of a constitution drafting assembly.

Regarding a call by the People's Alliance for Democracy for political reform, Yingluck said the government welcomes opinions from all sides as it wants to achieve national reconciliation.

However, she added the government would rather focus on public administration and allow the legislative branch to deal with the reconciliation process.

In response to a demand by Opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva for the prime minister to detail how reconciliation will be achieved and to bring Thaksin back home, Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm said Abhisit should not try to drag the prime minister and the government into the matter as he already proposed his own version of a national reconciliation bill, which is constitutional with signatures of 21 MPs who sponsor it.

Chalerm added the details of the bill cannot be disclosed at the moment because he wants to make sure that the public really understand its objective. He expects the bill to be submitted for Parliament's consideration in the next four or five months.

The deputy prime minister said during the parliamentary recess, he will be on a trip to give policy briefings to police nationwide on drug and crime policies.

He added after public hours, he will give his speech at the grounds in front of the provincial governors' offices to educate local residents about the national reconciliation bill in question. Chalerm said he will start his tour in northeastern provinces first.

So Dept. PM Pol. Captain Chalerm thinks that whatever he does has no relation with his fulltime job of DPM? His very own 'reconcilliation bill' written in any spare time he might have had? To be presented when he is ready and no need to piek at it before? The cheque is in the mail, right?

More smoke and mirrors.

And

The premier noted that many have gone too far by speculating on the details of the amendment, as the constitutional provision currently in consideration concerns the selection of a constitution drafting assembly....

... Chalerm added the details of the bill cannot be disclosed at the moment because he wants to make sure that the public really understand its objective. He expects the bill to be submitted for Parliament's consideration in the next four or five months....

Please do not think ahead, of what we tell you to think about,

because you might guess what we are doing, before we do it to you.

We will not say what the details are

because we want everyone to understand what we say we are doing

without any details or facts to confuse them

Then when we do it, if they don't like it,

we can say they simply didn't understand.

Sure befuddles the Opposition.

Political brilliance!

Mr. Abhisit should watch and learn, or rather, listen and learn.

Not that he will ever need the skill.
