TAT To Propose PM Yingluck As Thai Tourism Presenter

Thailand's tourist industry really is struggling, just look at these figures: http://www.aseansec....tat/Table29.pdf

Then compare with the numbers of tourists recorded in Thailand during the same years...

Still waiting to hear what countries should be used as a tourism model for Thailand to emulate...?

Still no response? Much easier to just post derogatory remarks than substance using actual facts and figures.

Please educate us all to what country Thailand should be looking to for advice in attracting Tourists? Anyone?

Ironic that most of the posters here reside in Thailand not as permanent residents but as tourists, with only negative comments about Thailand Tourism...

Have the PM as the presenter to stimulate domestic tourism??? First of all, it seems she and all other politicos are polarizing figures. But, the ludicrous concept of a government ministry promoting domestic tourism is like the owner of Makro advertising to his family to shop in Makro. It does othing to change the economic dynamic of the country. Individual destinations should be promoting travel to their individual destinations.

Having a government ministry involved in domestic tourism is misguided and raises the eyebrows of speculation due to a potential for special interest being bartered or sold to private sector destination stakeholders, financed by public sector funds. Also eyebrow raising is when a tourism ministry is putting on film festivals--which history has shown have nothing to do with travel and everything to do with corruption--and when a tourism ministry has control of sports--which history has shown has nothing to do with travel everything to do with gambling.

Ludicrous.... just ludicrous, wonder where did she get that idea from?

Thanks for opening your figurative mouth and removing all doubt. You don't know "come here" from "sick 'em" about tourism. You don't even understand the English language apparently.

Overcome to the land of red villages ...

Sorry, I forgot to add as I've just been reminded after this vid, "face like a bag of hammers, and a set of teeth that look like a well blown harmonica!" ;)

Care to clarify that rant or reply with some actual facts to back up your childish snipes?! No, just flame on me for producing some facts that other heads of state commonly get behind tourist ventures without public outcry from disgruntled expats.

With regard to English language abilities please try to keep to English in your posts and I may be able to understand them and reply accordingly, as it is I have not the slightest idea what you are babbling about... "sick 'em" ? Are you talking to your dog? Err... woof?

Her time OFF work should be enough to fit the TAT job in with ease, Her multi lingual abilities - her photogenic looks- her business capabilities- and of course we not have to forget her worldwide attention and worldwide acclaim, with her historic speech in Davos. HaHa

"participants from the private sector have also suggested that the government build a Thai-inspired theme park to showcase the tourism and traditional diversity from across the country"

I thought they wanted to build a Disneyland or is this the same project as above..LOL

Actually this is not a bad idea. If she can get her English up to scratch.... it is the lingua franca after all...... then I think she'd make a great ambassador for Thailand's tourist industry. She's attractive, dresses well and smiles a lot and she's so much more suited to it than being PM.

The bosom size doesn't match YuckLing's, nor most Thai's. If you want LOOKS, buy a Goldfish.

She could do a freemantle wind in public, just to show she's not a marrionette however. :)

I think they should really look at Chalerm as an option, he'd increase the number of executions excursions into Thailand.

Can you imagine a TAT promo video with Chalerm and his two lads standing in front of a backdrop of Wat Arun or something with a cheesy smile giving a wai and saying " We're waiting for you "

Sure frigging bet folks won't be complaining about the immi queues at Suwarnabhumi then. The place will be like a bloody ghost town.

Ah but with his Toilet loving son, boasting that Thailand is The Hub of Clean Toilets, there's always a chance. Maybe his gun toting other son would be able to take tourists on a tour of the local nightclubs.

oh great ... more funny ideas ....

yeah I had the same thought. I thought that any prime ministers first role is for the Socio economical development of the country and the protection of Law. Well... it looks like those HR people and those who pride themselves in being quoted as Ministers simply do not know where to draw the lines in a job description - Lets look at the logical progression of this thought - If Tourism needs to be developed, and the Prime Minister is choosen to be the best Presenter.... with so many casino and go- go bars around... She would have to begin with Pole dancing in the literal sense! I apologise for the comparision but where on earth are you leading with this ...when the countrys Prime Minister is supposed to be the presenter. Its not in her Job description. It only reflects those ministers or those who have a vote on this.... their total ignorance of her position.

" Jack of all trades MASTER /MISTRESS of non!"

I'm not against national leaders appearing in tourism campaigns per se. But it seems they fit better when they are especially charismatic leaders like Obama or Cristina Kirchner. Yingluck is moderately pretty but she is not really charismatic and she speaks English so atrociously. Perhaps the idea is to suggest don't come to Thailand for sex tourism. Our women are not your sex puppets. Instead, we have our lady Thaksin puppet. From a purely business point of view, attracting more tourists, it doesn't seem to be an especially astute choice, but it's not tragically bad either.

Obama? Charismatic? Give it a rest. Cristina ok but obama -phhhhhp

Blow me, as Bill Clinton might say, you can't have national leaders working in advertising.

I reckon you just don't like Obama if you really don't see what most of the world sees quite clearly. Yes, Obama is a very charismatic leader. Charismatic doesn't mean good or bad, just charismatic. Edited by Jingthing

if you want to develop tourism here .... you can check what other countries did and succeed and correct what can be correct in Thailand.I dont think appointed the PM as international presenter is a good idea .. Let the PM do her job as PM .

Agreed about the PM being the PM - though her brother set the precedent in his first year in office with his ugly kisser all over posters, with the slogan "Be My Guest" - not "our" guest... "my" guest - it was his own personal country, as far as he was concerned.

But as for developing tourism in terms of sheer numbers, they seem to be able to do no wrong... 20 million this year. One wonders how many there'd be if the TAT was actually competent.
