Vertical Sun Awning

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of installing a vertical sun awning, roughly 4 m wide with a drop of about 2.5 m. I want to compare prices and models before buying, but so far the only place I have noticed that specialises in sun awnings is in the outdoor shopping area just in front of Home Works. Can anybody point me to some other vendors in the Pattaya area?

Thanks for any info.

Are you talking about the ones like you see at many bars/restaurants? If so, find a Thai shop, lots on Thepprasit, and they'll have them. Or can direct you to where they are. Maybe even ask the bar manager where they got theirs?

A few shops on Sukhumvit have them, you can see them displayed outside, or wait till it looks like it is going to rain and there will be many trucks patrolling the streets selling them and installing them on the spot, if you want something more fancy google "sailshade thailand".

I live just off Thepprasit and drive up and down it several times a day, but I can't say that I've ever noticed a shop selling these things. The bars where I mostly drink don't have them, but I'll keep an eye out for one that does.

the one I was thinking of is on the left as you head towards the beach. It's past the road you turn left to get to the go cart track. It's a hardware store. And I think there's a big empty lot just past it.

Lots of the bars near that fresh market across from Soi 5/immigration have them. Maybe stop by there?

I'm also looking into one...I'll do some research and let you know what I find out.

Thanks. I'll look there tomorrow.

I have two options really. One is the cheap and easy option of a vertical sun awning. The second is to extend the roof of the house out so that it will provide a double-sized shaded patio area, but that won't be cheap or easy I should imagine. I thought I'd price up the sun awning option first, as even if I did extend the roof/patio I might still need some sort of sun awning for the last hour or two in the afternoon.

I'll keep my eyes out for the trucks. The trouble with looking for small undistinguished outlets on Suk is that I have to devote 110% of my concentration to staying alive when driving along that road, there's nothing left to try and spot some small shop selling awnings.

I'll find a store for you. I've got a guy who has already given me a quote for this and I'm sure he knows where to get it. If you need help installing it, you might be interested in meeting him. He's done some work for me already and a few of our neighbors. Speaks English also! He's coming back for a fairly large job in the next few days.

PM me if interested.

Regarding extending your roof, that's what I did and it's great. Still get some sun late in the PM, but it's way better than what it was. Plus, when it rains, we have a place to sit and enjoy the view. I'm from the SW US, so do enjoy the rain!

I attached a pic of what we did.

OK, stay safe....On Sukhumvit on the northbound side there is a place, it is like a stand alone double shophouse and it is bright green, between Klang and Nua, he makes sells all types of Marquees, Tents, Awnings and Canopies etc. Hope this is better!!

I saw one today! First one I've seen. It was driving down Beach Road in Jomtien. Full of awnings. I tried to chase the truck down, but it was a bit too fast for me.

Thanks. Can you narrow it down further - heading north from Klang, is it before or after Boonthavorn?

  • 2 weeks later...

I've found pretty much what I'm looking for on a bar at Rompho market in Jomtien. I asked the lady in charge where they bought them, and apparently it was from a rattan shop in Naklua. I don't know Naklua at all, so although she drew me a rough map I have little idea of where to find this place. She said that if I go along Sukhumvit, past Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, and take the road on the left heading to Soi Naklua (which one - the map shows several???), then I will find the shop along there. She said that I should look for the Numchai shop and from there I would be able to see the rattan shop called Sukhumvit I think. All a bit garbled, I know, but that's as good as I could get from her. I didn;t even know that Numchai had a branch in Naklua.

So would any Naklua residents familiar with the area care to give me better directions if you know where exactly she is referring to? Thanks if you can.
