Garmin New And Updated Map April 2012

Featured Replies

For those of you who might be interested.....

I went into the Garmin showroom - service center in Sathorn Nakorn Tower, Bangkok last week, in order to have my Nuvi 200W updated with the latest map (Oct. 2011).

The lady in the showroom advised me to wait until around 4 April (2012), as the latest updated map will then be available.

How acurate is her statement ?? I don't know but I am prepared to wait and give it another try around early April. I only live up the road from the showroom.

I will report my findings.

Are you referring to Thailand Streetmap V. 12.1 (current)? And perhaps V. 13?

It seems like these have been ~ yearly: Oct/Nov for the past few releases?

I refer to the Thailand Streetmap; V. 12.2 or V. 13 ??

I must say that I was surprised too that an upgrade was due again so soon. I too had Oct/Nov in mind.

However, it seems to be April this year.

I will report when I have made progress in the matter.

April will be Thailand streetmap V12.2.They usually release a new version around November with an update around April.

I'm talking here about Esri, since Garmin has their own map for the past few years called city navigator south east asia.Think they are now at version 5 but could be mistaken.

Hello Pipo,

Your explanation seems correct. I have never used the Garmin City Navigator for S.E. Asia.

I have always been happy with the Thailand Street Map.

I will report my findings in a couple of weeks or so.

Thank you.

I wasted my $99 on the Garmin SEA V7 map. It is missing many decent roads that are on the ESRI map and the points of interest are outdated.

There should be a new map update for TSM in the second half of April available for public. Not enough data to say if it is just an update or a new version release.

I only bought an upgrade a couple of weeks ago (20th March). Oh, well. It is only 450 Baht for a registered user, in any case.

450 Baht sounds fair.

For 450 Baht it is not worth to go to the shady places of Internet.....

Today I returned to the Garmin Showroom and bought the new updated Thailand map version 12.1 on a CD.

They even uploaded it for me and checked my Nuvi unit.

I haven't tried the new maps yet but assume it will all work ok.

The new map was 450 Baht.

I'm sure you both are talking about TSM V12.2 as I have installed 12.1 already for about 6 months.

Thanks for the update. I am downloading it now.

Just for clarification, I have just checked the latest CD and the map uploaded on my Garmin Nuvi and it clearly states Version 12.1/2012.

I also bought the newly advertised Garmin Nuvi 40 for my other half; an entry model with surprisingly good features with a 4.3" screen for 3,990 Baht.

Again, the latest Thai map uploaded on the new Nuvi 40 is also version 12.1 / 2012.

The maps on the new Nuvi 40 also include Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore.

Somehow there seems to be confusion on the correct number for the latest map for Thailand.

I think you'll find that the latest map is 12.1 and the one before that, 12.01. Yes it is a bit confusing.

Frustrating with the Nuvi 40 that it only has the THAI map installed and not the english version and does not support Dual language maps. Otherwise its good value.

At the time of purchase I was asked which language, Thai or English, I wanted the unit set up with. In my case English was the desired language and therefore my Nuvi 40 was made ready in English.

It just seems a matter of uploading the chosen language software, which can be changed at any time but not at the switch of a button; you would have reload via your computer.

I would advise you to buy a Garmin with the ESRI map on it. For less than 4,000 baht you will have an easy to use device with the best Thailand map available.

Before you tear my head off, I too have an Android phone and have never found any map that was easy to use or had decent detailed roads or accurate up to date points of interest.

Are the ESRI maps and the Garmin City Navigator maps the same maps? If not, is one better than the other?

Thanks.

The ESRI map is now called TSM meaning Thailand Street Map. It is indeed a better map than the Garmin supplied map. I wasted the $99 on the Garmin map. No map is perfect but I do expect at least that the paved roads be up to date and numbered correctly. The Jomtien Sois are numbered wrong on the Garmin map and the new second road shows a broken line and won't route. The village roads where I live in Loei province are not shown and a good paved road shortcut for me is not shown.

I have sent errors and omissions to Garmin but they have all been ignored and the next update seems worse than the one it replaced. I no longer waste my time trying to help them. The latest V7.5 is no better than the older versions.

This thread has some options for Android. http://www.thaivisa....d-which-better/

While I have a Garmin Nuvi 1300 from the U.S., hacked with Thai UI (menus, dual TSM 12.01, spoken directions POI) for long distance driving, I do love my Google Maps with directions, navigation and of course, now Streetview. (Give it up for Pegman!) Even cooler on a tablet. smile.png

Google Maps seem pretty detailed, and yes you can cache a limited number of map blocks.
