BANGKOK: -- Gay rights defender Nathee Theerarojanapong yesterday urged Culture Minister Sukumol Kunplome to act against writer/TV host Lakkhana "Kham Phaka" Panwichai whose television show claimed Thailand was the world's brothel.

Nathee submitted the letter to Sukumol yesterday morning calling for legal action against Lakkhana through the Chiang Mai Cultural Office at the City Hall Complex. A copy was also sent to Chiang Mai Governor Panadda Disakul, and a complaint filed against Lakkhana at the Chang Pheuk police station.

Nathee claimed that Lakkhana's Kid len hen tang kub kham phaka (Think differently, play differently with kham phaka) television programme on Vice TV channel had shown the damaging message "Thailand is the world's brothel" several times during midMarch.

Nathee's Chiang Mai Ariya Group and allies want Sukumol to proceed with legal action against Lakkhana, saying the comment was an insult to Thais and similar remarks should be prevented in the future.

Well Pattaya is one of if not the largest red light district on earth. While other Asian countries have just as much if not more prostitution, they don't usually allow foreigners while Pattaya is aimed at them

Who cares? There are brothels and prostitutes in lots of counties all over the world.

Yeah , its hard to hear the truth .... compare with Thailand , some red districts in other countries looks like convents . I wonder if all massage parlors, gogo bars,escort service etc ...would close there would be a huge drop in tourism revenue.

Well, one country has to be the World's brothel... or, to relate to other news, the "Hub of Brothels".

It would help this case if Nathee would name that country (which apparently is not Thailand), it would also help a lot of other people who may then not have to fly as far away as Thailand anymore

And even worse is that the accuser is a man who calls himself gay rights activist. Certainly this guy should calm down an for sure he does not represent our gay majority.

And of course Thailand is the world hub of prostitution. A real USP and big income earner.

You can't expect the brothel owners (politician's & their families, military officers, police generals etc) to give up their tidy earner can you?

Pattaya and the likes of Nana & Cowboy are mere window dressing on the greater business that is carried on throughout the kingdom, largely unknown and unnoticed by foreigners.

The greatest percentage of the sex trade is Thai on Thai.

Pattaya without the sex business would be merely a beach and a few high priced hotels.

A poster said women do not come to Thailand for the brothels ???.........ha ha, go to the boys town areas and watch the ladies go in to choose the guys, as near as many as the men. The boys go with most and look forward to the ladies for a change. After all it's business-wages-sex. So few lesbians are talked about, and they flock into the girl go go places. Yes there is a "bit of the other for all comers. That's Pattaya for starters.

WRONG it would die in a month. and regarding a beach---are you Joking---there isn't a decent beach there, people do NOT come to Pattaya for the beach (they use it-yes cause it's there) but to fly from Europe or where ever traveling thousands of miles, at great expense for the sand and sea, oh NO. if you want white sand and blue sea, Pattaya is a NO NO. A top brothel YES

Check out Japan when I was In the Navy during the 60s Yokusku was a bit like Soi Cowboy lots of bars with ladies at that time japanese now they import Thais and Philippinos to do what japanese girls use to do. There are still lots of massage parlours and bars in japan. Sex is for sale in asia.

Perception is everything. Just run a survey in your local pub back home what anyone thinks of first about Thailand.
