Am contemplating to buy a Honda Civic.

I like the current model, it looks and drives well.

Honda said that the nobody is buying the existing model as they're waiting for the new one to come out.

The few reviews I've read of the new model is uninspiring and it doesn't even look that good (shame the hatchback isn't released here)

Additionally, the value of the existing model would plummet as soon as the new one comes out.

What do you guys think?

seeing the price of used cars and how the local maintain their cars, i suggest just wait for the price drop for the current gen or get the new gen if you like it. they dont even run in the new cars, god knows, might be still factory oil after 2 years running

Honda Charan Sanitwong said people are scooping up the current Civic before the changed version comes in as this current version appeals more. Which is of course at odds with what you're being told...

There are a number of second hand Civics around the second hand dealers around me so I've got options regarding condition/age.

I like the look of the existing version but don't know how they hold up after a year or two - can anyone here driving a Civic (8th gen) comment on this?

My neighbour who has a car rental business also mentioned to be careful buying new Honda's in 2012 as there may be quality control problems after flooding to the Thai Honda factories.

I have the previous model (7th gen), 8 years old with nearly 200K kms. Usually just the normal parts needing replacement, brake pads, shocks, tyres, some rubber suspension components, etc. Also the air cond uni packed up too. The airbag sensor is faulty but that happened after warranty, and I haven't replaced that as it's expensive. I don't imagine you will have any real problems with a well looked after 8th gen, apart from regular parts replacement as I mentioned.

Buy the current Civic off the showroom floor, or await the new Civic; but stay well clear of 'used' cars. I've seen how truely talented Thai's are in reconstructing and presenting a wreck as never having been in an accident. The term 'caveat emptor' was likely created by an early Roman's used-car buying experience in Thailand.

I have the Civic 2.0, two years old and is as good as when I drove it off the lot.

Slightly OT, but does anyone know when the new Accord is going to be released in Thailand ?

The 4 year lease on my current company Acccord is up soon so I need to choose new model.

I briefly considered the new Camry, but I find it butt ugly and several decades back in terms of design and styling .

been driving one since 2008 still drives like new. replace tires and put 18s on it, regular sevice, 3rd battery. other than that no issues.

interior pristine and have don a fair few road trips. all in all very happy with the car.

certainly looks better tan the new one
