Folks,

Can my missus travel to Irealnd from the UK with a general visitor visa in her Thai passport or do we need to pay a visit to the Irish Embassy/Consulate?

Irish visa required.

could she not go via northern ireland and then travel down to the south, as there is no border posts

Whether there is a border post or not, she is legally required to have an Irish visa if she wishes to visit Ireland. In fact, even if she travelled by air from the UK, she would probably not encounter an Irish Immigration checkpoint. If she wishes to take the chance, then go ahead. But if anything goes wrong, som nam na.

I was hoping that she would have unfetted access. Another day spent in an embassy then
