Hello,

I'm thinking of visiting Koh Tao in January. Has anyone gone there recently? I like to stay on the east side of the island-just want to relax with the girlfriend and maybe do some snorkeling. I'm looking for cheap accomodations. Any suggestions? P.S. Has the island been affected by the heavy rains?

Thanks,

I was on Ko Tao in August. I forget what side of the island it is on, but I usually stay in Tanote Bay. There are some reasonable accomodations, good snorkeling in the bay, and a big rock you can swim out to. There are two dive outfits in the bay if you're into scuba. In the past, I've stayed at the Bamboo Hut, but they've really gone downhill in recent years and I believe they are about to go under new management. Could be a good thing if the new owners put some TLC into their business.

Koh Tao is too small to get seriously flooded, there may be some damage from runoff but I wouldn't worry too much about it, most people in business are pretty quick about getting things fixed up.
