I've heard of square pegs in round holes .... but round covers for square holes.

Does anyone have any idea why this happened to several square holes along Jomtien beach front?

It's just Thai Engineering. Don't worry they will be replaced with vendors soon enough.

Anyone remember playing with the box as a kid where you put the circles in the circle holes, the squares with the squares, and so on?

They clearly don't have that here. That is an essential skill set one must learn in life.

But then again, they hammer screws, so.....

The iron grates were stolen and sold for scrap. sad.png

Probably, but why couldn't they get precast square covers for the square holes??

Common sense dictates that holes in the ground should be circular - and so should the covers. That way the lid cannot fall down the hole. Don't waste your time telling a Thai engineer this.

Another secret that escapes them is that drain covers should be slightly lower than the surrounding road or footpath to facilitate drainage.

if they are slightly above ground level then you do have an excuse for falling arse over tit whilst staggering home at night.
