It's been a 4 day holiday for the university but decided to go in today to restart one of the servers that shut down during the recent storms. Got a OMG moment. biggrin.png This is right in front of my office, the office right next to me took the brunt of it. A few years ago, as I just left the office and started down the stairs I heard a tremendous crash. Went back up to my office and there was a 20 cm tree branch taking up a place where my chair is (and where I was seated seconds before). Believe this is a teak tree, so sorry guys no handouts. They require a ton of paperwork to remove teak at the university.

Are those leaves on the office floor from the same tree? If so, it's not teak. Teak tree leaves very large.

I think you're right. There are several teaks next to the building that drops really big leaves but don't think this one does. Not sure what type it is now except scrap wood. biggrin.png

My next concern, as it is hanging directly over my office ceiling, as to how careful are the guys going to be when they start chopping it up. sad.png

Wow....good you weren't there!!

Yes definately good Tywais wasn't there when ExpatJ had morning wood.

why would they want to paint the tree??

I was referring to the ugly stained concrete in the second picture. They could use the fallen tree as scaffolding.

Not a nice Easter present. Tywais, I hope none of your precious research equipment got damaged. That's not the room with the photospectrometer, is it?

Actually it was painted just a few years ago but directly exposed concrete like that doesn't seem to stay clean long in this climate.

@Maestro - no equipment was damaged though haven't checked the status of his computer yet. Think it was under a desk so suspect ok. Guess he is going to have to find another office for a few weeks. He only just recently moved into that one. smile.png

If they painted it properly it might, but Thai "painters" wouldn't know how to......

If it is teak, which seems in doubt, I would be volunteering to clear it. biggrin.png

Ends up it is oak and the base apparently had been termite infested. Oak furniture is pretty nice I believe. wink.png

Things went from bad to worse. Appears it rained very heavily later that day as most of the 2nd floor had flooded but somehow my room again escaped it. Also, a 2nd room in line with the tree has a hole punched in the ceiling. Some more images topside. They are standing right on top of my office - hope nothing heavy drops when they start cutting the tree up.

Oops, getting a bit too noisy overhead and think I will leave the room for a bit. wink.png And to top it off, it just started raining heavy.

Sorry, I'm a little far away right now to offer my services. Cutting down problem trees used to be my specialty.
