hi guys,

i have seen the guy over the road getting his house treated to keep out the ants, rats, snakes, cockroaches etc (the claim of the company doing it) and i was wondering how hard it would be to do ourselves.......

i have bought a pressurised pump to administer the mixture, now i just need to know what i should spray

i want to keep out as many different pests as possible, but dont want to kill the wife, kids, dog, visiting birds, existing plants etc

anyone know what safe chemicals i should use, and where i can purchase it / them?

the company i spoke to said the cost was 5500B a year, which included them coming once a month to spray the perimeter of the house and the gardens

do you think it would be possible for myself to complete the task just as well, and as safely, as long as i could find out the correct chemicals to use??

10 quid per month (including chemicals) sounds like a good deal... why bother doing it yourself?... sounds like a lot of hassle... what is the name of the company?

if it saves me £120 a year, and i learn something along the way, and the wife doesnt grow an extra nipple i reckon it will be time well spent

the company that quoted me was SP Pest Control in Hua hin

I started a thread recently titled "I am scared of ants" and some posters made excellent suggestions with regards to chemicals to keep bugs out...

I just mentioned on the general forum section Orange Oil

Folks in the States have been using it instead of toxic gas methods of treating their wood homes for termites.

also a small article here states it may be good for other insects too.

Lastly if you google " how to make orange oil"

There is quite a bit of info

Good Luck

You an buy the bug bombs at some supermarkets and co-ops. They will kill most of the unwanted pests. Ready mixed liquids are found at most Lotus, Big C and Tops.Cheap, easy and safe when administered correctly. Also Kasetsart University has some solutions for pests in home and for lawns. Check them out at KU Co-ops.

your doors, door frames, kitchen cabinets, etc. are made of concrete and tiles? several years ago we had termites in a ground floor bathroom which has not been used for months. they ate up the door frames partly and left the paper thin paint. it was only discovered when the wooden cabinet which holds the washbasin sagged 10cm.

and mind you, that happened during a service contract with a local pest control company charging 6,000 Baht a year. when i drew their attention to the termite infestation i was told cooly "termite potection is not included in that contract. if you want that you have to pay more."

that's when i called my dogs bah.gif

since then we are spraying a small area (depth 10-15cm) around the home once a month using "Chaindrite" pressurised cans. it's not exactly cheap but we haven't seen any termite since then.

Chaindrite products are effective...I use the ant spray in the kitchen and once every 3 months usually takes care of the problem...there was a previous thread some years ago, do a search on 'Chaindrite'...
