For 2.1 you can get a new C Class Benz with working gps...

You are a liar. The only new C class with a GPS is the C 250 CGI , which costs more than 3 million THB.

Go on www.mercedes-benz.co.th

Download the price list...

Check the c200 blue efficiency with command online 2.179.000

It evens update the maps online through Bluetooth from your mobile and even use Google maps...

I think you are actually both correct, to a certain degree.

The C250 CGI is in fact the only C Class with Comand (Navigation) fitted as standard equipment in the locally produced (CKD) cars, hover there are a good number of different aftermarket solutions which will plug into the existing display of the current model C Class and that is most likely the situation with your friend's C200 unless of course the car in question is an import which has Comand supplied as an option and then it is purely a matter of installing the local mapping onto the HDD. The Google update feature leads me to believe it is probably a local add on and there is certainly nothing wrong with that. Cheers

My opinion, why even spend that much money on a car? Unless you keep cars for 10 or more years there is no reason to invest that type of money into a depreciating asset that generates Zero revenue or interest. I would just go out and get a 7 year old used car, put some money into it making it look new again and then role down the road - probably could be done for 400-500k baht and that's including converting to LPG which gets better mileage/kilometers.

I always laugh when I see people rolling down the road in big nice fancy cars. They are really nice but statistically they are also the biggest waste of money unless they are being used for business such as transport or something like that... I would rather have a really nice house and a crap car - I may not get a lot of "Face" but who cares. I need to get some serious "Face" from someone I will go rent a Mercedes for the day, impress them and then give the car back with no future payments or commitments.

Your theory is OK in farang land where you can buy your 7 year old car for peanuts but spending mega dosh on a 7 year old ride in LOS is a bit daft.

Rent a ride, hmmmmm, believe me, the natives will know your a wannabe hi-so. laugh.png

You are correct in regards to the hi-so part - but I don't need to impress anyone :) - My theory is correct in regards to a used car in Thailand. I have a 7 year old Nissan Sunny, not the sexiest car on the road I will admit but it runs great! Purchased in great condition for 320k baht with 65000 kilometers in it - put about 20k into it to polish up the rough spots and it almost looks brand new.

You want to impress people, bring them to your really nice house on a private community, gated access - that is much more impressive than a car. Even the hi-so's, many of them would have a high respect that you have a really nice home versus a really nice car.

Just my opinion. Everyone has to do what they think is right for them.

Think you will find that in LOS a nice ride is faaaaaaaaaaaar more important to them than their house, the house really is secondary. Learned a lot since I've been here. You are thinking farang thinking, which is OK BUT, the natives think differently. smile.png

Right, everyone has to do what they think is right for them. So why criticising the people who do things different than you do?

Toyota maybe number one in overall sales here in Thailand. But remove the Altis (Taxi) and Vigo. Then see where they stand. There are a lot of Honda Civics, Citys and Jazz on the road. And an awful lot of Izuzu pickups.

I am a bit of a Honda man, but think Ford and Mazda are building better cars (maybe not looks).

I'd like to see the Koreans with a wider reach. They are certainly producing some good vehicles and giving the Japanese a run for their money on the USA.

Well three less Izuzus PUs on the road in Phuket after the accident yesterday....

No ''real'' criticism, just looking at stuff from a Thais perspective. Do what you want. biggrin.png

Can get a bit complicated when you marry a Thai but! Lucky my wife isn't so much into the face thing - out house cost 6x more than our honda civic, and we hardly ever have visitors! It's strange what Thais like - I got more looks driving my brothers triton than my nice shiny car, though I got more stares when the car was new. Seems Thais are impressed by the red plate!

No, that is not what 'commande' was doing.

I'm not criticizing anyone, if this is what was interpreted from my post I will be more than happy to remove it. As I stated people have to do what they want to do, I only offered an opinion and alternative.

Isn't Toyota the biggest motor manufacturer in the World ?

I guess they are!

I think they have been overtaken again in 2011 by GM.
