Robert Mugabe 'fighting for life in Singapore hospital'

- Robert Mugabe undergoing intensive treatment

- Reports family flown to his side in Singapore

- Possible deal to hand power to Emmerson Mnangagwa

ZIMBABWEAN dictator Robert Mugabe was yesterday said to be fighting for his life in a Singapore hospital with an undisclosed illness, amid reports he had agreed to hand over power to his feared Defence Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The Zimbabwe Mail, quoting a senior official of Mugabe's ZANU-PF party, said the President was undergoing intensive treatment in Singapore and that some members of his family had joined him after boarding a chartered private jet on Saturday.

The alarm was raised when the government postponed a cabinet meeting set for today.

"The Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda, wishes to inform all members of cabinet that sitting has been moved from Tuesday, April 10, to Thursday, April 12, 2012," Mugabe spokesman George Charamba said.

Mugabe close to death: reports

Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe is reportedly fighting for his life in a Singapore hospital with his wife and close family by his bedside.

The 88-year-old dictator, who is believed to be suffering from prostate cancer, flew to Singapore late last month on what his aides described as a "private visit".

A senior member of Mugabe's Zanu PF party told The Zimbabwe Mail that Mr Mugabe was enjoying an Easter break with his family in Asia, and denied that he was seeking treatment for a medical condition.

However rumours are swirling that the ageing leader, now in power for three decades, is seeking treatment for prostate cancer following several bouts of therapy in Asia in recent years.

And to think he was planning to run for a seventh term in office later this year. Having grown up under this dictator's rule, this is the end of an era I've been keenly anticipating. There will be a coup in Zimbabwe after he dies, the entrenched corrupt establishment he leaves behind will never ever win an election and will never cede power either. He can join his mates Gadhaffi and Kim Jong Il

I wonder if his close family friend Nalinee Taweesin is at his bedside?

Or somebody else aiming to be a dictator not having much luck in Asia might try Africa as a stopgap.

Mugabe 'gravely ill' in Singapore hospital

Zimbabwe's president Robert Mugabe is reportedly gravely ill in a Singapore hospital.

Local media is reporting that the 88-year-old, who is believed to be suffering from prostate cancer, is surrounded by close family members.

A Zimbabwean cabinet meeting has been postponed amid reports Mr Mugabe will hand power to defence minister Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The Zimbabwe government insists Mr Mugabe is in good health, saying he only flew to Singapore to help his daughter enrol in a local university.

Singapore University registration does not begin until September.

Unfortunately Zimbabwe will now probably get even worse as all factions that have been lurking in the shadows will come out and struggle for power.

It will be a long time before there is any sort of stability in the country.

A 'good news' story.

No loss to humanity.

The world must be a better place with his passing - die soon Mugabe and pray for the country that you defecated on.

Shouldn't he be in one of his own country's hospitals? Or has Zimbabwian health care become a thing of the past under his dictatorship?

I'm sure you must be joking. The country is a total basket case.

Obviously Mugabe doesnt trust Zimbabwean health care. Could that be because they are as inept as most Zimbabwean entities? Or because someone might just see an unmissable opportunity?

I do, in any case, hope we are not supposed to feel any sympathy; though it does, unfortunately, look as though Zimbabwe's future will simply stagger on, entrusted to yet another inept, and corrupt, pair of hands.

I thought most countries had banned any travel from Mugabe and his family......money talks I guess!

Certainly does. In that respect Singapore is the Switzerland of Asia.

If Mugabe goes it will just continue the recent bad run despots are having. Wonder who'll be next?
