Rimmer Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 City hall pledges cleanup of Walking Street touts, vendors PATTAYA:--Pattaya City Hall is taking another stab at cleaning up Walking Street amid rampant complaints about touts, pick-pockets, ladyboys, flower sellers and other riff-raff. At a March 30 meeting with Walking Street’s board of directors, Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh said a proposal awaiting approval would have Pattaya police, tourist police and municipal enforcement officers jointly ticket and arrest on sight pornographic DVD sellers, sex-show touts, beggars, flower sellers and other street vendors from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Barriers will also be erected on side streets to prevent cars from entering the zone during evening hours and officers were assigned to inspect signage so it’s in compliance with height regulations. Ronakit said the Public Health and Environment Office would take over responsibility for garbage collection and city hall has set aside funds for more officers to secure the street from 3-8 a.m. Walking Street community head Sunthorn Kangsirikul agreed many of the street vendors and beggars are nuisances to tourists. He also requested more help in corralling the many transvestites and motorcycle taxi drivers congregating on the 850-meter promenade who also draw copious numbers of complaints from visitors. marinediscoking Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 The last couple of nights have been a huge improvement on walking street! Most of the above were not there. I am not sure if it is because of the crack down or if they went home for songran.
LPCustom69 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I'll believe it when i see it... Agree, although it would be nice!
kurnell Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 A crackdown on lying politicians would solve all the problems. 2
doggie888888 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Deja vu, all over again. I think Pattaya's leaders (to use the term loosely) have a list of say 10 favourite things to say every few months/years or depending on situation. 1. clean-up of walking st vendors, touts 2. flood alleviation 3. crackdown on ladyboys, sex dvd vendors, beggars and sundry "undesirables" on Beach Rd 4. make pattaya hub of <<insert fanciful idea>> 5. clampdown on underaged sex workers all over town except in the known haunts 6. roundup of illegals (code for burmese, lao and cambodian) 7. confiscate counterfeit goods in front of media 8. clampdown on illegal drugs and arrest the same guys 9. another "beautification" project and at the conclusion, it's still a fairly ugly town 10. put telephone, electrical wires underground please feel free to extend list becasue I am sure I missed several "promises" which have yet to be delivered. 2

Can't wait until the mayor's absurd re-election promises that are coming soon. I don't think he fulfilled a single one last time. I'm sure the 2nd batch will be equally as humorous. I guess politicians are the same all over the world. Promises, promises, promises.
PoodMaiDai Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Funny, no mention of the jet ski plague. The only crackdown on things they are not making money on.

apetley Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Is this the same city hall that promised to tackle the problem of jetski scams? Posted with Thaivisa App http://apps.thaivisa.com
Jingthing Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 He never promised to bring real taxi meters to Pattaya. Mission NOT accomplished!
