Crime Four Police Officers Injured in Bomb Attack in Narathiwat
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Four Thai police officers were injured in a roadside bomb attack while supporting a joint security operation in the insurgency-affected district of Chanae in the deep south. The incident occurred at approximately 12:15 on 15 July, in Ban Nam Hom, Village 7, Dusongyo Subdistrict, Chanae District, Narathiwat Province. The officers were part of a special operations unit (MNP 41)assigned to assist the 49th Ranger Task Force (Rangers Regiment 49) under the framework of the “Protect the People” mission, running from 13–18 July. According to initial reports, the team from Company 4902 of the Thai Rangers was targeted by insurgents who planted an improvised explosive device (IED) along the road. The explosion injured four members of the special operations police unit: • Police Lieutenant Thawaooma Yeeta – suffered ear trauma and chest tightness • Police Sergeant Ekanan Prathumta – sustained a head wound, along with hearing loss and chest tightness • Police Sergeant Ismaae Yeeta – reported hearing issues and tightness in the chest • Police Sergeant Pariwat Sukkasem – suffered similar ear and chest injuries All four officers were promptly transported to Chanae Hospital for treatment. In response, security forces swiftly sealed off the area to secure the scene. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units and forensic teams were deployed to investigate and gather evidence. The attack highlights the ongoing tensions in Thailand’s southern border provinces, where separatist violence has persisted for decades despite ongoing peace efforts. Authorities have not yet identified the perpetrators. The investigation remains ongoing. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-07-16 -
