A criminal investigation has been launched. The accident occurred just after 1 a.m. local time on Tuesday at a building in the southern part of Moscow, according to a spokesperson for Russia's Investigative Committee. Sixteen people were working in the building, which is owned by an investment fund, at the time of the accident. The debris from the collapse covered approximately 500 square meters (5,381 square feet), killing one person and injuring ten others, most of them construction workers. "On this fact a criminal investigation has been launched on the grounds of a possible offense under Part 2 of Art. 216 of the Criminal Code," the committee said in a statement, referring to the article about a violation of safety regulations during construction.Although the cause of the collapse is still being investigated, reports indicate that the construction had not been authorized by Moscow city officials. tvn.png
