Is the re-entry permit section still working at the airport?

If so, does anyone know if it ever closes or if it is running 24hrs a day?

I just received a call last night that my grandmother died and the funeral will be on Wed, so I need to fly out tonight at 3am. Given this no chance to go to Chang Wattana.

I am a bit worried, as this is the first time I have ever needed to get re-entry permit at the airport.

I believe it operates from 06.00 to 24.00, you need to be checked-in before going to the desk so I hope your airline desks are open early.

As there have been recent calls to check-in early you might have a chance to get boarding pass before midnight - if not obtain a new non immigrant visa for your return (carry required documents). Sorry for the travel need.

I just did on-line check in and printed out boarding pass... should this be ok?

Can I just go earlier today with my boarding pass that I printed out? Would this be enough?

I do not know how it is handled or if you would be allowed to return outside the departure immigration area after entry (but suspect you would). Is the boarding pass valid without any check-in counter involvement? Have avoided airports since aftermath of 9/11 as do not like the experience/arrogance.

I havejust done online check in with the airline and printed out my bording pass for first leg from BKK. Also I do not need to check in any bags, so understand that I can go early and just go directly to re-entry permit section at about 11pm, correct?

I travelled with BA and they had an early check in desk, was open way before the normal 3 hours before

The online printed out boarding pass should be fine for gaining access to the Immigration area where the re-entry desk is located.

Supposedly, they only issue permits for international flights out the same day.... But that doesn't fit too well with an early morning departure occurring during the hours when that re-entry desk is closed. Not sure about that aspect of it.

But the re-entry desk is in the Immigration hall area BEFORE you get to the Immigration desks where the officers stamp you out of the country. So if you had a boarding pass and just went inside to get your re-entry permit, I don't see any reason you couldn't walk back out into the main terminal after...instead of proceeding onward to check out via Immigration...and then check out later.

Showed up at airport at 11:00pm and only 2 people waiting in line for re-entry permit, but they had already submitted their applications.

They took my passport and took my picture, made copies of passport and filled out and printed the form for me to sign.

The whole process took about 20 min from the time I walked in the airport until I received my re-entry permit and cleared immigration

Airport was dead tonight, absolutely no line and over half the immigration officers sitting there with no passengers to help.

One note, the officer at the re-entry permit section advised that there was a survive charge of 200 thb for the photo and copies and filling out the form. I told her that I actually already had the photo and the copies needed, so could I use my own and she advised that this was not possible and the the regs at the airport dictate that the customs officers will do and the 200 thb service fee must be paid.

Not a huge deal and just smiled and said no problem, as not worth making a scene, but is a bit odd?

Well, glad it worked out for you and you're on your way.

Re the baht 200 service charge, "odd??" Odd for such to a government officer?? In Thailand?? Surely you jest..... But at least you received an official receipt, right? On top of the baht 1,000 for a single-re-entry permit itself, right??

As has been said a few times previously on other threads, it does same some worrying to just put up the additional baht 1,000 for a re-entry permit when you get your annual extension. Think of it as insurance.

It seems to have been policy since the return of re-entry permit desk to airport that a service charge is charged but no need to obtain your own copies/photos.
