anyone want to challenge the fact that the best Yorkshire puddings are from Yorkshire?

That would be just plain stupidity, my Mother lives in Yorkshire!!

Not only Yorkshire, not only (even!) West Yorkshire (God's own county) but Huddersfield, eh?

Yes, I read your other post here.

I left (Lindley) before curries arrived, sadly, but would appreciate updates. Curries, Olde Bell type places?

I am old enough to remember that the best fish n chips in the centre came from the Elite, but the bxstxrdx built the Civic Centre over it.

New thread? Maybe not. It's great place to come from, but methinks not to go back to.........!

Curry houses here in Huddersfield are plentiful and great value, I do think that the "Taste of India" on Kamphangdin Road, is the nearest I've come across in Thailand that resembles "Yorkshire Curries" I must admit I haven't tried the Anglo Indian Curries that supplies the Olde Bell and available from Rimping but have heard good reports, the alternatives from Rimping and Tops are dire in my opinion..

I don't remember the Elite at the location you mention (Long before my time??) but the best chippy now is at Linthwaite owned by my mate Adam Fogerty ( Gorgeous George in the film "Snatch".)

As for your last comment, I wholeheartedly agree with you.

The only thing resembling a curry that came out of Huddersfield was Harold Wilson.biggrin.png

I know you guys never have the opportunity to go to London, but Brick Lane is the UK centre for a decent curry, though I'm afraid you won't get mushy peas on the side.wink.png

Ah! The old Congregational church in Cleckheaton. It was the biggest Indian Restaurant in the World at one time, not sure if it still is.

Is that the place where they changed the sermon to two fishes and five nan bread?

It was called Aakash, opened in 2001 as the worlds biggest curry house seating 860 but was repossessed by the bank of India in 2006.

so the biggest curry house must be somewhere else now

here endeth my sermon. "wi tikka ander barji"

Couldn't we have something like this in Chiang Mai?

Yes thats the place. So it appears it was rescued at some point in the last few years. Impressive indeed.

Certainly a specialised curry place here would be unique; but why has no one done it here.

I am not in the food game myself but i guess putting all your eggs in one basket is too risky and diversying a menu would appeal to a gretaer audience.

In the uk, there is a curry house/kebab shop/pizza shop every way you turn so when you stagger out of the pub its the first thing you hit.....and who cares what it tastes like after 10 pints.

Ha! Ha! or two Chicken Tikka Masalas and 5 Onion Bhajis - they fed a sub continent.

As for Yorkshire Puddings, my (Yorkshire) Grandmother used to cook Yorkshire Puddngs and Gravy as a Starter.

Our Yorkshire Puds at The Olde Bell got a good write up in The Nation a couple of years ago with our Lahu (Musoe) Hill Tribe chef being commended as producing the best Yorkshires in Northern Thailand - notwithstanding the fact that the competition was - and remains - not extensive!
