Poll: Election Defeat Not Affecting Pheu Thai's Popularity

BANGKOK: -- According to the latest opinion poll conducted by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, most people see that the resultsof the recent elections in Pathum Thani Province have no significant effect on the ruling Pheu Thai Party's popularity.

Between April 23 and 24, Suan Dusit Rajabhat University conducted an opinion poll among some 1,000 respondents randomly selected from Bangkok and Pathum Thani on the recent elections in Pathum Thani.

According to the poll results, 42.77 percent of the respondents see that the election results have no effect on the Pheu Thai Party's popularity because they were just local contests where voters preferred to choose their candidates based on the individuals rather than party-affiliation.

At the same time, 38.19 percent of the poll participants believe that the election results reflect the Pheu Thai Party's declining popularity.

They claim that the preferred candidate, regardless of their political affiliation, must be sincere and work for the people selflessly without expecting anything in return.

Meanwhile, 19.04 percent are uncertain, indicating that each voter has his own preference in choosing a candidate and the elections saw a low turnout.

When asked what was the main reason behind the Pheu Thai Party's defeat in the race for the chairman of the Pathum Thani Provincial Administration Organization, 48.58 percent point out that the winning candidate is a native of the area who has been supporting the constituency, particularly during the flood disaster while 33.13 percent blame the party's own complacency, 8.92 percent point to the low voter turnout and 5.71 percent see that the Pheu Thai candidate was running for his own interest.

When inquired whether the election results would affect the Pheu Thai Party's popularity, 33.13 percent of the respondents say that the ruling party could rebuild trust by truly working for the people, 33.57 percent advise the party to produce tangible results and keep its campaign promises while 28.30 percent urge the Pheu Thai Party to turn its attention to more pressing issues, such as flooding and high cost of living.

Election Defeat Not Affecting Pheu Thai's Popularity

----

if the PTP does a better work the next months.

My interpretation of the poll's results.

Obviously not a poll taken in Pantun Thani of course...

A poll can get you the results you want to hear,

if you know how and where to take the poll,

and how to PHRASE the questions,

AND the 'analysis'.

We lose vote~

But poll says we still most popular!

Don't I make mak mak sabai idea?

Totally clueless spin to a bad loss

Election; Opinion of those who voted (more than1000). Opinion poll; opinion of 1000 randomly selected 'respondents'. Conclusion- PTP not as popular! At least in Phathum Thani

It may be a bit late for the feet.

They have committed so many faux pas since coming to power that they are now shooting their prosthetics.

A party without policies but plenty of money to fund 'giveaways' for the electorate who have been conned into believing that Democracy is about getting stuff for nothing. What a joke.

Another election loss for PTP, losing the Chiang Rai mayoral elections (by a landslide).

This was a problem with "'individual candidacy' rather than the party's failure". Doesn't the party select the candidates?

Both parties must be a "joke" then, using your reasoning:

Policies of the two main parties are strikingly similar, promoting big-ticket spending on infrastructure projects - from high-speed trains to subway extensions - and various giveaways aimed at boosting spending power, especially in rural areas.................................................

.........................Chutima Woramontri, an economist at BNP Paribas, said the key policies of Yingluck's party would cost about 264 billion baht ($8.5 billion) - including cutting corporate tax from 30 to 23 percent next year and to 20 percent the year after..................................

.........................Chutima at BNP said the key Democrat promises would cost about 235 billion baht ($7.6 billion).

It's the the PTP's third election loss in a row.

The Pheu Thai candidate being an incumbent was clearly the wrong choice by the Party.

Maybe but at least the Democrats had more realistic timetables and generally a better overall package.

Who was it that started the give away culture in Thai politics it certainly wasn't the Democrats it was your knight in shining armour Takky Shinawatra.

It would be good if you took off the red tinted glasses from time to time and actually engaged your common sense and brain.
