Can you get a van or bus from the main Pattaya bus terminal and is there any other options?

Also any input about the frequency of the service would be most welcome

thanks very much

cheers

Not sure about the Bus Terminal but you can get picked up at any Hotel in Pattaya by the minibus

You just need to visit any Travel agent in Pattaya to arrange the pick up.

best or cheapest are 2 different matters

best is a taxi

cheapest is a bus on sukhumvit road, sorry do not know the frequency, but i know there is a stop at Esso station near Pattaya Tai, just behind that also have a mini van company who i think also runs a route there

Bus is the cheapest, and quite easy. If your at a hotel, ask them. If your at a condo, your front desk should be able to help and I know the scooter taxi drivers know where to get a bus. There are many different options, from a big government bus to a variety of smaller minivans. I think one of the main stations is on Suk just past Central Pattaya Road as you are headed South. Kinda hard to see, but it's right there. I think a mini van stop is near Big C on Suk near South Pattaya Road.

Again, the scooter taxi drivers know where to take you.

If you go up to Sukhumvit Road to one of the bus stops you can caych either a bus/coaches from BKK to Rayong or you can catch one of the baht buses . If you catch a baht bus it you may need to change at the Tesco at Sattahip to continue on . I use to make the trip a few years ago and everytime was an different experience but always fun unless there is a time schedule involved.

The motorcycle taxi boys will drop you of at the right place along Sukhumvit if you are unsure.

Actually the best option is to catch MINIBUS at sukhumvit, sometime last year they started to run minibus service from Chonburi to exactly Rayong, so this minibuses pickup passengers at sukhumvit all way between chonburi and rayong. 80bht, frequency is 40min or so, you will arrive to rayong in about 1hr 30min, final drop point is across post office at sukhumvit, they are not going further, but till this point you can ask to stop anywhere. On way back from rayong they are waiting for passengers at bus stop by main post office. Its white minibuses with tricolor at sides, just try to stop them and tell that you are going to Rayong.

Not from the main bus station, but from small square opposite to it, around 100m in direction back to the beach, you can find another minibus for pattaya-chontaburi route, but also with stopover at Rayong. They have sign, but you should pay attention to notice it ;-) 140bht, every hour, this minibuses go by highway and by speed can compete with taxis. From ptt to rayong cityline you can expect to arrive something like in 1 hour. At Rayong they will stop at BigC, the one outside of center, so this way you will not even go inside Rayong city line.

BKK-Rayong bus from sukhumvit is a pure pain and imho should be avoided. 60bht, frequency 30min or so, but they are really slow and can easily take like 2.5hrs one way.

Minibuses from travel agencies and hotels are ones for tourists goint to Ban Phe, personally I find em useless - 250bht, no advatage of time, no advantage of frequency, also booking is required.

the advantage of the prebooked minibus is mainly for those to anxious to use local trasnport-horrified by all the crash+misery stories etc-also quite often on this site.

There is NO use to going to the PTY busstation on north road-as there only the big blue AC buses to BKK leave. PTY has NO central busstation for other directions.

Seems to me then that the mentioned minivans now replace the old 2nd/s3d cl. bus Cholburi-Rayong, maybe even incl. the Sattaheep route-as is so common on many of those routes.

All together you have 4-06 buses an hour along Sukhvit-and no, there are no set times along the routes anyway.

Pattaya has 4 or 5 bus stations scattered all over. I've been to about 4 of them. Each hits different parts of the country, or some, like the one on 3rd road, is just for one company.

The one on Suk near Klang serves points south. It's where you can catch the bus to Trat if doing a border run. It is a pain trying to figure all these out!

Stand anywhere along Sukhumvit and flag down one of the aircon blue buses, or one of the white songthaews or one of the grey minivans.

Also noticed some white minivans last night.

These minivans seem to have replaced the old orange 'rot doysarn' that used to cause chaos along Sukhimvit.

I guess you might want to get back from Rayong to Pattaya at some time? Make sure you don't get on one of the express Bangkok forms of transport as from Sattahip they head straight to the 36 and on to Bangkok.

The white vans with the three bars of color along the sides are called "lote do" if memory serves, (van in Thai). Wave at them anywhere along Sukemvit and tell them Rayong. Busses 46 and 57 will get you there but take longer. Song Tau, white to Sattahip and orange to Ban Chang and red to Rayong but you will need all of them. BTW Rayong is pronounced Layong. So if you wanted to take a van to Rayong you would say, "Yak by lote do layong cup."
