PHUKET: -- Chalong Police today confirmed to the Phuket Gazette that investigators are still waiting for written confirmation that the DNA tests of the human remains found in the basement of Norwegian expat Stein Dokset are a match for his ex-girlfriend Rungnapa Suktong.

“We were informed by a phone call a few days ago that the remains are indeed those of Ms Rungnapa, and Mr Dokset has already confirmed in his confession to police that the remains were of her,” Chalong Police Superintendent Sirisak Wasasiri told the Gazette.

“So this is now just a formality. Once we have that report we will then forward the case to the Phuket Prosecutor’s Office to proceed with the criminal charges against him,” said Chalong Police Superintendent Sirisak Wasasiri.

The remains were found in the locked basement bathroom at Mr Dokset’s luxury villa in Kata when police raided the home on February 28.

Mr Dokset faces charges of murder, concealing his victim’s body and illegal possession of a firearm.

Chalong Police investigating the case had previously told the Gazette that the initial findings from the forensics investigation report that a skull fragment found among the remains showed signs of having been hit with a hard object.

Mr Dokset was denied police bail and is currently being held at Phuket Provincial Prison while the investigation continues, Col Sirisak confirmed.

With his confession and DNA evidence, I hope the family of the victim can get closure.

Sad indeed, but at least the case is solved.

Now only avaiting trail and sentence.

May she rest in peace.

Why is he not wearing the nice Thai prison suit?

They only have them in simian sizes, not suidae.

Looks like he's got his hands cuffed behind his back. Hope they're not going to give him the customary poly bag escape route. : rolleyes:

Why is he not wearing the nice Thai prison suit?

Probably because he is in jail, not prison. The article says that he has not yet been charged with a crime. They are still waiting on the DNA evidence, "as a formality."

In America closure is only regarded as complete when the victim's family have seen the killer strapped to the gurney and paralysed with curare to prevent struggling or crying out, while the rest of the cocktail burns through his veins. Perhaps Chalerm will take a leaf from the book of a more developed country's justice system and offer this option together with his "fast track" executions for drug convicts who lack money and influence.

Uhmmmm... that should be "In SOME states of the USA closure..." not all states execute.

^ Does the death cocktail chemically 'burn' its way thru the body ?

It's difficult to interview those who have been through the process. Unlike in executions by hanging, no one to my knowledge has survived a aborted execution by lethal injection and been reprieved so as to be able to describe their sensations. Some convicts, who were intravenous drug users, have been allowed off the gurney for a toilet break after lengthy unsuccessful attempts by paramedics to locate a serviceable vein but they had not yet experienced the cocktail. Some medical experts claim with some credibility that the chemicals must create a painful burning sensation as they go through the condemned's veins. The curare derivative seems to work fairly immediately causing paralysis but the barbiturates often take a while to cause unconsciousness and some witnesses have claimed that the condemned died with a look of extreme pain in their eyes. Still it must be a lot better than getting cooked in "Ole Smokey". We only will know more what the lethal cocktail feels like once a convict gets a stay of execution after it has been delivered and the paramedics are able to revive him which I imagine would be quite difficult.

Getting back to Dokset Thailand is unlikely to break with its tradition of not imposing the death sentence on foreigners from wealthy Western countries that strongly oppose the death penalty and would make a lot of annoying fuss, if one of their citizens was going to get offed like this. However, since administering the cocktail is not a precise science and Thailand's new chemical executioners has scant experience of using the tools of their new trade, I would suggest that the chances of a botched and painful lethal injection in Thailand would be extremely high for those unimportant Thais or foreigners from unimportant countries that might have to suffer it in future. Probably a clip in the back from the Heckler and Hock of old would be preferable, although one of the former executioners related a tale in his biography of a woman convict who sat up on the slab a few minutes after he had shot her and was cleaning up the mess. She had to be taken back to the stake and shot again.

Well, the real question is, did the police search all the other properties that she owned on paper but were used by Stein, properly as well? She owned a house in Hua Hin too, you never know what they might find hidden in a closet there too...!

His basic human emotions and morals? They were certainly missing from the crime scene.

To think, he was modding Thai Visa from his study while his missus was decomposing in his bin downstairs.

Was he not there when he pushed her down the stairs, then put her dead body into a bin, before keeping her in the basement for a few years??

You need to contact the police with your information.

I think it is pretty standard in Thailand that if you confess & plead guilty a death sentence is commuted to life.

Also if plead guilty to a crime then the normal prison time is reduced by 50%.

Yes, so I think he'll plead guilty to man slaughter, murder can't be proven so the prosecutor will settle for that as well.10 years sentence will do it for him probably.
