Pattaya Is Thailand’s Role Model

But, on the other hand it could be a good business opportunity rolleyes.gif

You get more or less famous businessmen to Pattaya. High end hotels, workshops, all the personal info including titles and addresses

in your database(identify best targets)

You can rip-off them during their stay with over priced fees here and there. And take one or two nice photos or videos during arranged

evening excitements and voila...you can still rip-off their money after they have left, just send envelope with pictures and bank account

number and ... clap2.gif

Maybe they're not so stupid after all...whistling.gif

Role model? For what? Last place I would like to live is Pattaya. Beautiful nature? No ! Beautiful girls? Hell no !!. The only girls go to Pattaya is the ones left over from Thai man ended up desperate farangs.

Right...I have always longed for hanging out on a polluted beach front with street urchins begging me to buy some useless piece of nothing...No thanks. For all of you that live there and think it's so wonderful...please stay there.bah.gifbah.gifbah.gifbah.gif

I lived on an island off the coast of Florida in the winter and another one off the coast of Canada in the summer. No, I would not go to the beach in Pattaya. Anyone who goes to the beach in Pattaya is a dweeb. Shopping is great. Food is great. Weather is not smoky. I like to watch people. Pattaya has the most interesting (to me) parade of people in the world.

Does Pattaya have beautiful women? Sure. Every place in Thailand has beautiful women.

That you don't know where to find them sounds more like a personal problem or you go to tourist places late in the day or evening. You know what they say about the early bird. It is like the guys without the gold chains and tattoos; they go quick.

I agree on several points...I too, love watching people...But I can do that in Naples Italy too if I want. The shopping is pretty good, especially if one is looking for tools, fiber glass cloth, wood working machines, etc...(why I was there). Thailand has the most beautiful women in the world, (my opinion), and the weather here in Chiang Rai has finally cleared of garbage smoke and smog. I did enjoy the food, but I can do that anywhere. I lived in Palm Beach for several years and spent my time between Jupiter Beach and Key West. I lived aboard my 36' Columbia sloop, in Lantana and had more fake friends than I knew what to do with. So goes for Pattaya...Fake friends, polluted beaches and well...questionable women that I would not do with your dck...even if I triple wrapped it...and what is up with the "gold chains" thing...

Gold chains. It's a girls joke. The ladies who take the singles cruises always joke among themselves that the guys without the gold chains and tattoos go quick.

Funny thing is Pattaya always gets bashed, yet its jammed packed every weekend.

Pattaya in fact does have more to offer if one bothers to look.

Of course if you travel here and stay near Walking St or Soi Buakhao, all you see is the red light district, HOWEVER

Pattaya DOES have everything for everyone, just need to open your eyes and move away from the certain areas

Such as ?

I went down there a few weeks back and left the same evening. Pattaya today is nothing more than a cattle pen housing thousands of Isan prostitutes for 'instant visa ' marriage to old British goats . The beach has almost disappeared due to soil erosion. Pattaya supplies sex services and nothing more. I dont know why the authorities always try to make it out to be something it clearly isnt.

next time try to visit other streets besides soi 6thumbsup.gif

Myself and my GF. 5 engineers from her company. Bjorn and his family from Denmark. Enrico from Italy now working in London with his GF. Frank (owns restaurants in the US) and his Thai wife and her family. It is a Thai holiday every one has a couple of days off. Stay at good hotel. Swim in pool. Eat at international restaurant. See movie. Take bubble bath in hotel room (don't have tub at home). Shopping at Central. Hilton buffet lunch. Check out the Russian chicks shopping in short shorts while GF is looking for pillow cases. All of this within easy walking distance. No Smog. No taxi. No cops.

What is it with people bashing the "seedy" side of Pattaya? Is it some form of self-loathing? Perhaps it is an attempt to project some type of moral superiority? I happen to like sex. I think it is an important part of the attraction for business tourists. If I were traveling on business, I would much rather go to Pattaya than Salt Lake City, Utah. The hotels and food may be nicer in Salt Lake and the infrastructure may be vastly superior. The softer side of things, however, leaves much to be desired.

Obviously not a business traveler or you'd understand that business travelers don't pick places out of the sky to go visit. They go where they have customers, branches, or factories.

Or trade conventions, which I believe were mentioned in the OP. Or more than two parties having a meeting, such as the ASEAN meetings. Salesmen and politicians are known for their appetite for women, think BungaBunga.

When deciding what to do those lonely nights after the speeches have been made, between a night at opera or a whoremongering session in Sin City .. well I guess in both cases the fat lady sings, but only in one case are you allowed to make any sounds yourself. Opera is so limited.

FTR, trade conventions and meetings travel are part of their own category of group travel; M.I.C.E. Having a one on one meeting with a customer or regional staff would qualify as business travel, however, such travel would be to the location where the customer or staff were located.

Pattaya is of course seriously ideal as a business centre. In my lifetime experiences I can say honestly that most business folk DO truly very much want the availability of the sex industry for their chill out time after a day of heavy meetings and business seminars, and indeed WHY NOT?

Why is the sex industry always seen as such a bad thing?

Certainly not by me, I think it's wonderful and of course should be legalized and the workers given proper protection and respect. However even then their customers will probably continue to be looked down upon by the "straight" women and religious moralists, which tend to dominate the public culture of many western countries.

LARGE COPRORATEE PLANNERS CANNOT LEAVE THEMESELVES OPEN TO SCANDAL...

This is a real jewel, may be he means that corporate planners prefer expensive escort girls to plain bar girls...

....

Pattaya without sex tourism would become a gray, polluted, noisy third rang beach within a poorly designed, chaotic city.

I'm sure they do, and not just for their discretion. And I think the phrase your looking for is "ghost town".

I've worked for several companies who have conferences in Amsterdam and Thailand, and they know why they pick those places. I know for a fact that a children's television channel who name shall remain nameless had a corporate account with Yab Yum, the premium Amsterdam brothel, before it was closed down by the city council.

'Large international corporate planners' are not nuns, and neither are the people for whom they book conferences. No-one ever says it out loud, but a nod and a wink conveys exactly what kind of 'entertainment' is expected. Watch The IT Crowd episode 'Jen The Fredo'. It's far more accurate than any company would dare to admit.

My perception is that for large events - not something expected to be a boondoggle, like a reward for salesmen - hosted by **large international** firms or trade associations - especially those based out of English-speaking countries - Pattaya would be out of the running due to their dominance by PC culture, especially in companies and industries no longer exclusively run by male executives.

I'm sure that doesn't apply to companies with more enlightened cultures, particularly those from the scandinavian and latin countries of Europe.

And I'd be happy to be corrected, if anyone knows of contradictory events please post with them.

Finally, I've got nothing against Pattaya myself, if I can ever afford to retire, I'm sure I'll base myself within an hour or two of that very happy hunting ground.

Just saying if Chiang Mai or Khon Kaen want to become world-class MICE destinations, they would be wise to copy all the **other** aspects of Pattaya and keep the sex industry a bit more discreet.

Usual rubbish from uninformed idiot's, priceless in hilarity yet at the same time quite pathetic, posters like you are more to be pitied than laughed at!!

It is actually pretty interesting and funny at the same time that pattaya expats never bash another city and are usually fairly contempt with their lives, while residents of other city's including Bangkok, Phuket, Villages in Isaan ALWAYS and i mean ALWAYS have a go at Pattaya and people who live here.

One can not help but wonder if its the fact that many can not afford to stay in Pattaya, or can not fit in Pattaya or simply envious of those living in Pattaya.

While at the same time, Pattaya residents satisfaction, is it due to having a huge variety from food to activities, as well as foreign media and TV channel, including cable with over 60 channels for 300-400 baht per household compared to 2000 baht, having fibro optic internet(Pattaya got it about 3 years ago) or is it a number of foreign society's and get together etc so basically pattaya expats do not feel isolated.

Those wanting to flame-please feel free, but i would rather be interested to hear what people really think on the subject

C'mon guys you have to admit, people that are actually offended by in-your-face sex industry activities are better off avoiding your fair city.

Of course it has much else to offer a foreigner wanting his western-style comforts, but you'd really have to go out of your way to pretend to be able to ignore what drove the city's growth from a tiny fishing village forty-odd years ago.

And aren't you happier without these tut-tutting prudes around?

So live and let live, be tolerant of all attitudes, even disdainful bigotry. . .

I have to agree. The first time I went to Pattaya there was no sex industry and I didn't stay. Now I like the place. I could never see myself talking to a person who didn't like Pattaya for more than a couple of minutes and that would be under duress.

People who go to red light zones, cannot possibly claim to be offended.

Those who claim to be offended, not once stated they visited Jomtien Beach or Wongamat Beach or Cosy beach or any other place for that matter but Walking Street or Soi Buakhao.

As usual this thread has degraded to the I hate Pattaya faction and the defenders of said city.

The topic of the thread is that TCEB has stated that Pattaya is a role model for Thailand to follow to attract MICE visitors. Regardless of the naughty nature of Pattaya, it does have the room capacity for conventions, plenty of dining options and a variety of entertainment venues. More so than any other location in Thailand with the exception of BKK. Granted, the city is known for it's nefariousness nightlife, but there are many other options available. The visitor numbers don't lie.

The first time I went to Pattaya there was no sex industry and I didn't stay.

Which century was that in? I've been coming here for over 35 years and I remember there being a sex industry all that time. It has diminished markedly over the last 10 years or so, admittedly, and is now very boring and artificial compared to what it used to be. I think this is a great loss as the world has absolutely no shortage of dull places for dull people to go to with their dull families and dull business colleagues to have dull conferences. No more such places are needed at all.

My bairns are quite lively and entertaining, but I don't think they would enjoy gogo bars. When we go on family holidays to Pattaya, I don't even bother going myself. I suppose I don't know what I'm missing, though I can guess...

I got here in 1968 Darrel. The action was up the street at Kilo Sip Sattahip.

Pattaya is the largest brothel in the world and attracts perverts of every ilk, scam artists, russian mafia, jet ski operaters and the last I heard the beach has almost disapeared and what there is is polluted with sewage, Only in Thailand.

You're a decade out of date. The perverts and brothels are mostly long gone, and their place has been filled by the scam artists, Russian mafia, jet ski operators, real estate crooks moguls and assorted other nasty pieces of work, many of farang origin and nothing to do with Thailand at all.

Personally I think it was much better when there were more perverts and brothels and less of the rest.

Yet no other city in Thailand really gets bashed by anyone. Odd huh?

And how would the Pattaya guys bash another city, by commenting on their lack of violence, fewer scams, less drugs, and lower number of prostitutes? There is not really much they can say. And have you noticed most cities don't even have a crime section on their media websites? However, Pattaya's crime section could be printed into a book every month with some of the craziest crap you'll ever see.

Pattaya is just as affordable as any other developed city, with the exception of Bangkok, where people will pay much more than in Pattaya. I'm not sure why you would think guys living in other cities can not afford Pattaya. Maybe that is true to fellas living like Thais up country, but anyone living in a city is paying comparable prices. Only those who spend their days and nights in bars need to even worry about a budget when visiting Pattaya.

Is this a joke of a post or do you really believe what you just posted?rolleyes.gif

Lack if violence, how about a little search of all the crimes in BKK, Phuket, Samui

Fewer Scams, yeah BKK has hardly any and Phuket definitely leads in its class. Just tuk tuk rides charged at 10 times the price i guess is "fewer"whistling.gif

Less drugs, yeah all the huge seizes all usually happen in pattayablink.png

Less prostitute, is that per capita or per sqm? Phuket has none apparently nor does Bkk

It sure helps to think prior to posting, does not itthumbsup.gif

Pattaya Is Thailand’s Role Model

If other cities must follow this "role model" I hope they have enough of the following (in no particular order):

Dirty Old Men

Girls willing to go short / long time

Go-go bars

Jet-ski scammers

Ladyboys / pickpockets

Balconies

Suit salesmen

etc. etc.
