Dive Boat Goes Down In Rough Seas Today.

Interesting comment on PW from survivor she said the boat was in bad shape to start with and that a lot of the life belts were broken.

I thought there was a "clampdown" on the safety of dive boats after the one that sank a couple of years ago killing people.

Oh sorry just another Thai style clampdown.

I sailed for many years and I would not set foot on most of the heaps of scrap here.

Why did she get on the boat? If she had those concerns before she started the trip she should never have got on IMO.

Probably though the boat had been surveyed and was up to international standards even though it looked crappy

Only found out about the faulty life jackets when they had to be used

Not hard to work out

I wouldn't describe a 10 x 50 cm hole as a crack!

I guess the company statement has to try to minimise the incident, but when you have to beach a vessel to prevent it sinking, and customers have to swim 100 metres in rough seas to a rescue boat, it's not a minor incident.

Exactly. Here's another minor incident that never was fully investigated (or if it was the results never made public).

Well you know what thought did! wink.png

It's about time people took responsibility for their own actions and the risks they take. I would never step on a speed boat in Thailand without being fully prepared for any outcome. I would already be of the mindset that I wouldn't be blaming anyone if things went wrong. If I wasn't happy with that I wouldn't get on it.

If you want to be able to blame someone and get compensation etc then get on a speed boat in the UK or USA etc not in Phuket.

Developing countries like Thailand give you the opportunity to do what YOU want to do and what YOU are happy and comfortable doing instead of being like a child and relying on politicians to decide what is and isn't safe.

Anyone that goes on holiday in Thailand and expects things to be the same as a holiday in the West should probably stay in the West.

A holiday in a developing country isn't for everyone, but if it's not for you go somewhere else. thumbsup.gif

I would be interested to hear your opinion on the several people who died in Chiang Mai, not so long ago, from a toxic bed bug spray.

Should they have expected that a poisonous chemical, that could kill them, may be lurking in their room???? I think not. Who else in Thailand is using the spray? How many more have died from it that we don't know about? How many more in Thailand will continue to die from it?

Phuket is "misleading" to many. On one hand, it appears to many to be a first world nation with The Shereton and Hilton Hotels being here, for example. On the other hand, is what the expats know, but many tourist don't, that it is still a "developing nation." If that truth was given to potential tourist, many may not come here and Phuket would go broke, so, they conceal the shocking truth about the death, injury and illness statistics here.

"If you want to be able to blame someone and get compensation etc then get on a speed boat in the UK or USA etc not in Phuket." - Dead people can not blame anyone and do not apply for, and receive, compensation.
