Farang Couple,Not Married,What Visa?

Featured Replies

Have friends,a couple from Europe, not married but live togheter for some years and the want to retire her in LOS.

Hes 50+ she is 45 so my question is , he get a retirement visa and can she some how become a dependent or spous? If not would it change if they were married? Both farangs.

She would have to marry him to use spouse provision/extension of stay. She would only qualify for tourist visa currently.

Yep a Tourist Visa would be for her unless they marry.

Thanks guys

or education visa for learning Thai or something else in a university.

They could get married here. Having a marriage certificate in Thai would be useful at immigration.

Both of them would have to get an affirmation of permit to marry from their embassy. Then have it translated to Thai and have it validated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Then go to an Amphoe (Khet in BKK) and register their marriage.

Why not marry in Thailand...a fairly simple process and you will avoid having to do translation of marriage certificate into Thai, etc.

Dont forget the associated costs with this option..by the time you go and get your visa, pay for the course then 90 day extensions you are looking at at least 40k a year if not more..so budget in 4k a month just for a visa

From experience if you are over 50 you can get a o visa ( retirement providing you have a pension of 65,000 baht per month as you are not married to your partner and your partner is under 50 they would have to have 800,000 in the thai bank account. I suggest for starters you get a yearly multy entry visa in your own country for yourself and partner which would mean you having to cross the border every 90 days this way you do not need to show any funds do that for a couple of years until your partner reaches 50 and then consider if you want to go down the road of a retirement visa, this is what I did it worked well because every 90 days it was a good excuse to take a holiday ie Malaysia, Singapore Hongkong China since we took out a retirement visa we do not seem to go anywhere because we do not have to which if I am honest Imakes you lazy I do sometimes wish that I had stuck to the multi entry visa !!!! hope this helps

The partner does not qualify for a non-O visa.
